Malpas On Hearts

Andy Ross

Motherwell F.C. - Malpas On Hearts
The gaffer was quick to point out the massive improvement in the team`s performance and his belief that the "Jambos" were lucky to escape with all three points.

"If anybody thinks otherwise then they were at a different game from me, we didn`t get what we deserved today. We had most of the chances, if not 99% of the chances but we didn`t score and it`s a results based business and they got the goal and won the game 1-0 and took the three points. We need to go away and concentrate on the next game. One thing I will say, and this me having a jibe at the press, for anybody who has been printing we are a team in crisis maybe that performance will shut them up.
The saddest thing for me is that from as bad a performance last week to this one this week, if we had played like that last we might have had more points, you never know."

Malpas believes that the performance yesterday`s must now be forgotten about and that the team must continue to work hard and progress.

"We need to keep working, nothing has changed in terms of what we are going to do, we will keep battling away. It`s another game we have played, it`s another game we have lost, it`s another game the team that beat has not beat us by better football. We gave them a chance again and we need to keep plodding away, I must have done something bad in a past life.

Malpas also cleared up his reasoning in moving Jim Paterson into the centre of defence after the injury to Brian McLean and also revealed the extent of McLean`s injury

"I felt that I didn`t want to put young Bobby Donnelly on, as he hasn`t had much football since his injury at the start of the season. I also felt that if anybody was going to play there I would rather have Jim Paterson play out of position rather than young Mark Reynolds. Jim has been asked to play in too many positions this season and he has done well in all of them. I take my hat off to him, every where we have asked him to play he has done with enthusiasm and turned in a performance."

"It looks like Brian`s injury is a bad one, and another long term injury he has done the medial ligament in his knee and maybe the lot. We`ll know better in the next day or two before we can determine that and it`s another defender injured,"

A much more positive interview from Malpas, on the back of a much more positive performance. Hopefully the next few games will see positive interviews and positive results.
