CAMPBELL 'ANNOYED' BY CUP EXIT

Partick Thistle manager Dick Campbell admits he was "annoyed" after his side were cruelly knocked out of the Tennent's Scottish Cup third round after conceding a late goal to Hearts in their replay at Tynecastle.

The Bell's First Division side had taken a shock eighth-minute lead through strike Armand One before a Neil McFarlane equaliser sent the teams in level at the break.

The Maryhill men had battled hard in the second half and looked like they would take the tie into extra time until the 88th minute when Jambos striker Dennis Wyness capitalised on a Grant Murray mistake to grab a dramatic late winner.

Afterwards Campbell said: "I'm gutted at the second goal we lost and it's just annoying more than anything else.

"I felt fine at one each, their goalkeeper has had two world class saves and my goalkeeper has had only one save.

"They had territorial advantage which you would expect but I was very happy to go into extra time.

"Then we commit a sin by giving the ball away where there is no problem.

"We didn't react to it and they got the break, the cross comes in, we miss it and it falls to their player with only about a minute to go. But that's cup football. I came here to win the game.

"But we lick our wounds and get on with it and I wish Hearts all the best in the next round."

Hearts head coach John Robertson admitted he was geared up for an extra 30 minutes before Wyness got the late winner which secured a home tie against Kilmarnock in the next round.

However, the Jambos boss insisted his side deserved to get through in the end.

He said: "When it gets to that stage of the game and you've missed that many chances and their 'keeper has had as many saves as the Thistle 'keeper had then you think its going to drift into extra time.

"But we kept pushing and Dennis has capitalised on a mistake near the end.

"We said after the first game that it wouldn't be easy and it proved to be that way.

"They got their goal early, defended in depth and made it hard for us.

"But we got back on level terms and we kept battling away and creating chances but didn't take them due to bad luck, bad finishing and good goalkeeping.

"But we got our reward at the death and I thought we deserved to win the game against a very good Partick side."
