Hearts 2 Partick Thistle 1An 88th-minute goal by Dennis Wyness gave Hearts a narrow 2-1 win over luckless Partick Thistle in their Tennent's Scottish Cup third-round replay at Tynecastle The visitors took a shock lead in the eighth minute after Jags striker Armand One gratefully headed home when Jambos' keeper Craig Gordon messed up a Derek Fleming corner. The stunned Gorgie side fought back and equalised in the 34th minute when a Phil Stamp corner was converted by midfielder Neil MacFarlane from inside the Jags six-yard box. The second half, however, was a stalemate until Wyness capitalised on a mistake by hapless Firhill defender Grant Murray to slot a Kevin McKenna cross into the net from around 10 yards out. The Edinburgh side can now look forward to a home tie against Kilmarnock but know they will have to play a lot better if they are to continue their interest in the cup this season. The visitors started the game neatly, knocking the ball around with some confidence and shocked lacklustre Hearts when they took the lead after only eight minutes. After Gorgie defender Andy Webster had conceded a corner under pressure from Jags striker One, Fleming went over to swing the cross in from the right-hand side. When the corner came over into the six-yard box, Hearts keeper Craig Gordon made a mess of his punch which went behind him and hit the bar and from the rebound One had the easiest of tasks to head in from around two yards out. The unlikely goal sent the Jags fans into ecstasy and for the following few minutes the home side, shaken from their lethargy, tried to battle back but found Thistle determined to protect their precious lead. In the 19th minute the Glasgow side had a half chance when striker Juan Ramon picked up the ball after defender Kenny Milne had robbed Stamp but his shot from 20 yards went high over the bar. A minute later Hearts' on-form Paul Hartley had the ball in the Jags net after Wyness had flicked on but the goal was ruled offside. However, in the 34th minute the Edinburgh side eventually got back on level terms, also from a corner, taken by Stamp. When the Englishman's wind-assisted cross came in from the left, Robbie Neilson's initial header at the near post was blocked but the ball fell kindly to midfielder MacFarlane who stabbed the ball in from close range. It was Hearts who began the second half the better and within two minutes Hartley had shrugged off the attentions of Jags midfielder Jean Yves Anis 20 yards out only to drive his powerful shot just over the bar. In the 53rd minute, at the other end, One almost grabbed his second goal with a tremendous 25-yard snap-shot which Gordon did well to tip over the bar for corner, which ultimately came to nothing. As the game swung to the other end, a fine run by Hartley in which the former Hibs player skipped past Andy Dowie and Murray inside the Jags' penalty area, ended when he fired his angled shot wide of the far post. The Gorgie side were looking dangerous as they moved forward, Wyness and Webster having efforts blocked but as the second half went on, the prospect of extra-time loomed large. That notion was strengthened in the 63rd minute Hartley sent a curling free-kick from 25 yards inches over Arthur's crossbar. Hearts continued to dominate possession, pushing forward for the winner but the Glasgow side were coping rather easily, whilst never looking like they might pose a threat themselves at the other end. But in the 88th minute the Edinburgh side eventually took the lead with Wyness's fifth goal of the season. When McKenna's cross came in from the right Murray missed his clearance and Wyness was left with the easy task of slotting the ball past Arthur. Just on the whistle One headed a Fleming cross over the bar from close range to cap the Glasgow side's misery.
