As it happenedIn Summary Full-time: Hibernian 0-7 Malmo (agg 0-9) Reporting by Clive Lindsay, BBC Sport 1903: Good evening and welcome to live coverage of tonight's Europa League fixtures. It's a big night for Hibernian and St Johnstone as the Scottish sides aim to secure a place in the third qualifying round of the competition. St Johnstone hold a 1-0 lead over Rosenborg ahead of this evening's meeting at McDiarmid Park after what most regarded as a surprise victory in Norway. A draw or a win will take the Perth side through, while a 1-0 win for Rosenborg would force extra-time. At Easter Road, Hibs have a bit of a mountain to climb against Malmo, the Swedish league leaders being 2-0 up after the first leg. However, an early goal for the Leith side would change the complexion of the tie and give the home crowd plenty of encouragement. You can listen to each match online using the links on the right-hand side, while there will be coverage of both matches on BBC Radio Scotland 810 MW and on DAB digital radio. To take part in tonight's coverage, you can text 80295. On Twitter, the hashtag is #bbcsportscot or or directly to me @clivelindsaybbc. St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is forced into one change, with striker Stevie May coming in for Chris Millar, the midfielder having failed to recover from a knock. St Johnstone: Mannus, MacKay, Scobbie, Cregg, Wright, Anderson, McDonald, MacLean, Wotherspoon, Hasselbaink, May. Subs: Banks, Edwards, Caddis, Miller, B.Easton, Fallon, D.Easton. Hibs make one change from the first leg. Winger Alex Harris comes in for the more central Owain Tudur Jones in the Edinburgh side's midfield. Hibernian: Williams, Stevenson, Forster, McPake, Hanlon, Harris, Taiwo, Thomson, Craig, Vine, Handling. Subs: Murdoch, Robertson, Jones, Mullen, Stanton, Caldwell, Horribine. We already know who St Johnstone will play in the next round should they progress. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Malta, it is Minsk who won through despite finding themselves reduced to 10 men after 60 minutes against Valetta. It took until eight minutes after the break before Roman Vasilyuk broke the deadlock. Vitali Kibuk put the Belarus side further ahead seven minutes later but immediately after found himself sent off for a deliberate handball. Saints fans fancying a trip to Minsk? The carrot for Hibs is a tie against English top-flight outfit Swansea City. Certainly there is no easy passage to the group stages for Pat Fenlon's side. What do Hibs fans think of their chances of a trip to Wales? "They've put themselves in a great position, but we can't get carried away with the occasion. We need to be disciplined in our approach and we need to be patient as well." This is Stevie May's first competitive St Johnstone appearance since August 2012 after spending the bulk of last season on loan at Hamilton Accies. He bagged a very credible 26 goals for the Division One side and some had wondered why he had not been used more by former Saints manager Steve Lomas last season. Can the 20-year-old make his mark on the European stage even before doing so in Scotland's top flight? Rosenborg have made two changes to their starting XI from the first leg. Defender Stefan Strandberg and Nigerian midfielder John Chibuike are replaced with defender Per Verner Ronning and striker Alexander Soderlund. Rosenborg: Orlund, Gamboa, Ronning, Reginiussen, Dorsin, Svensson, Berntsen, Jensen, Soderlund, Nielsen, Mikkelsen. Subs: Hansen, Dockal, Chibuike, Hoiland, Moe, Selnaes, Sorloth. Malmo: Dahlin, Albornoz, Jansson, Johansson, Ricardinho, Hamad, Halsti, Thern, Forsberg, Eriksson, Rantie. Subs: Olsen, Friberg, Kroon, Helander, Fadi, Konate, Cibicki. The referee at Easter Road is Sebastian Delferiere from Belgium, while at McDiarmid Park it is Miroslav Zelinka from Czech Republic. We are still waiting for confirmation from Hibs and Swindon Town about the transfer of James Collins. Swindon earlier this week accepted an offer of about £200,000 for the 22-year-old striker. Someone called James Collins has said on Twitter today: "Happy to have signed for hibbs this morning, been a good couple of days in edinburgh. Loking forward to the challange of the SPL." However, in the world of Twitter one is wary of taking that as gospel before you even know it is the player's official account. And one hopes that, by the time he makes his debut, if he does, he knows how to spell his new employers' nickname - and that it is now the SPFL! "It is a fantastic night for the supporters. I would be disappointing if we did not get 7,000 here tonight. There are a few who are not Saints fans who said they would be coming." The statistic being bandied about is that, while St Johnstone's playing budget is £1m, Rosenborg's is £18m. To further emphasise the extent of Saints' achievement in Norway, chairman Steve Brown pointed out: "£18m is more than what Scottish football gets to share between 42 clubs." How do you think it would rank in the achievements of Scottish clubs in Europe should St Johnstone tonight oust a side who have such a proud European tradition? St Johnstone midfielder Chris Millar on Twitter: "Picked up a groin strain yesterday training. Gutted, but know the boys will do the business tonight." "Getting Alex Harris back gives us a different dimension. I thought he did well when he came on last week. We need to be cautious. We don't need to win it in the first minute. We need to win the game, but we have to be aware of the dangers they can cause." Legendary former Hibernian and Scotland striker Lawrie Reilly died this week at the age of 84. Hibs manager Pat Fenlon said: "It would be lovely if we could do it for Lawrie Reilly tonight - a fitting tribute." We're fast approaching kick-off at McDiarmid Park and Easter Road. Seems like there are big crowds at both stadiums as fans hope for a big night for Scottish football. And they're off in Perth...football this time, not horse racing! The Malmo players are forming a Celtic-style huddle as they prepare to take on Hibs. "I reckon there are about 8500 people here tonight." A minute's applause for Hibs great Lawrie Reilly begins. Hibs v Malmo is underway and the hosts are already forcing the issue with searching balls forward. St Johnstone 0-1 Rosenborg (Soderlund) Saints suffer an early blow that silences the big crowd in Perth. The bobbling ball falls to Alexander Soderlund, who had been drafted into Rosenberg's starting XI tonight, and he strikes to give the visitors a fourth-minute lead on the night to square the tie on aggregate. Unlike last week, Hibs are not giving Malmo much time on the ball. Pat Fenlon's side would love an early goal to open up this tie. St Johnstone have responded to that early blow by putting the Rosenborg defence under pressure. "On the shape of St Johnstone - it's definitely Steven MacLean playing behind Stevie May." Malmo are starting to show signs of their attacking threat, with Emil Forsberg looking dangerous on the ball. However, former Rangers and Middlesbrough midfielder Kevin Thomson shows his experience to break up one of the visitors' attacks. "There's been a lot to like about St Johnstone tonight, but the blot on the landscape is that early goal they've conceded. They can't afford to concede again." Rosenborg were heavy favourites with the bookies to recover from their first-leg defeat and progress to the next round. Can Saints defy the odds and the Norwegians' greater European pedigree, especially after suffering the blow of an early goal? Anonymous: "No way Hibs can get the win today......Swansea v Malmo in the next round!" Jordon Forster heads Liam Craig's corner wide as Hibs press against Malmo. BBC pundit Craig Paterson feels the defender "probably should've done better". "The goal aside, it's a really confident start from St Johnstone. They do look like scoring tonight." St Johnstone forward Nigel Hasselbaink's cut-back spins over the bar and behind for a corner off Rosenborg's Per Verner Ronning. Swedish league leaders Malmo have lost only twice in their last 19 matches, with their most recent defeat in June. It would a major surprise should Hibs overturn the 2-0 deficit. Rosenborg nearly score again when Tobias Mikkelsen almost capitalises on Gary MacDonald's short back-pass, but the winger misplaced a pass when trying to find a team-mate. St Johnstone 1-1 Rosenborg (May) Frazer Wright's looping header from David Wotherspoon's corner had been easily gathered by Rosenborg goalkeeper Daniel Orlund. But Stevie May scores with a great finish in Saints' next attack! He bends his run to keep himself onside and, as left-back Mikael Dorsin hesitated, he lifts David Wotherspoon's pass over the goalkeeper Daniel Orlund. Hibernian 0-1 Malmo (Eriksson) Magnus Eriksson fires Malmo ahead on the night and 3-0 up on aggregate. The low shot beats goalkeeper Ben Williams after a neat exchange of passes. Rosenborg's Tobias Mikkelsen gets in behind the defence, but great positioning by Steven Anderson saves the day for Saints as the defender reads the situation and clears his lines. Hibs had the ball in the net just after that Eriksson goal, but the offside flag had been raised. There's more disappointment for the home fans as captain James McPake limps off to be replaced with debutant Fraser Mullen. Is it all over for Hibs' hopes at Easter Road? Magnus Eriksson almost scores his second of the evening in Edinburgh, firing against the post after Hibs are opened up again. Hibernian 0-2 Malmo (Forsberg) Emil Forsberg surely finishes the tie as a contest at Easter Road after driving at the Hibs defence and then curling the ball into the net. Of course, like St Johnstone, Linfield are also on the verge of a surprise win in the Europa League. The Northern Irish side recorded a 1-0 win to Xanthi in Greece and, back in Belfast, they have made a promising start, although the tie is still in the balance at 0-0 on the night. Hibernian 0-3 Malmo (Halsti) It's another for Malmo as Markus Halsti fires past Hibs goalkeeper Ben Williams. St Johnstone forward Stevie May impresses further as he shows brilliant strength to play in David Wotherspoon, who in turn sets up Nigel Hasselbaink to side-foot just wide. "St Johnstone deserve credit. They've shown real composure after going behind; settling down and getting back ahead. Great organisation from them, too. You can see they've been well-drilled on the training pitch." Linfield 0-1 Xanthi (Marcelinho) Xanthi level the tie in Belfast as Marcelinho fires in a low shot from acute angle after coming in from left wing. Alexander Soderland goes ever so close to heading in a second Rosenborg goal from Tobias Mikkelsen's inswinging corner, but it flies over the bar. Greg, Edinburgh: "Absolute disaster for Hibs. Struggling without Griffiths." David Wotherspoon will be thinking he made the right decision to reject a new contract with Hibs - as long as the scores remain the same at McDiarmid Park and Easter Road. Having found himself on the fringes under Pat Fenlon in Edinburgh, the midfielder is impressing in the blue of St Johnstone tonight. Rosenborg captain Tore Reginiussen takes out Stevie May to concede a free-kick. The Norwegian league leaders have clearly identified the Perth side's danger man! Hibernian 0-4 Malmo (Albornoz) Miiko Albornoz cuts in from the right and sends a left-foot shot into the net via a post. It's getting embarrassing for the hosts at Easter Road. St Johnstone midfielder Paddy Cregg passes to Stevie May, whose turn and shot gives Rosenborg goalkeeper Daniel Orlund more to think about before the break. St Johnstone 1-1 Rosenborg (agg 2-1) Costas Fliskas is shown a red card for a bad tackle on Linfield's Michael Carvill in stoppage-time, so Greek side Xanthi are down to 10 men against Linfield in Belfast with the tie all-square on aggregate. Linfield 0-1 Xanthi (agg 1-1) Hibernian 0-4 Malmo (agg 0-6) Swansea City now know for certain they will be playing Malmo in the next round as it has been a dreadful first half from Hibs. The Edinburgh side made a decent start, but the hosts capitulated after losing the first goal on 21 minutes. All they can hope for now is to make the scoreline less embarrassing. Derry City 0-0 Trabzonspor (agg 2-4) "At the moment, this looks absolutely dreadful. Teams will look at this Hibs team and think they can get at them defensively. They have to come out, roll their sleeves up and prove they are better than the scoreline suggests." The second half is under starters orders at McDiarmid Park. And they're off... Stevie, Edinburgh: "Malmo are 20 games into their season. It's the same every year. Scottish team out at the first attempt! So much for co-efficient! Why do the SFA bother entering this competition?" Possibly because Rangers and Celtic both reached the final of its predecessor, the Uefa Cup, in the not too distant past. And, remember, Rosenborg are losing to St Johnstone despite also being into their season in Norway. Anonymous: "Hibs are a disgrace!!!! beaten cup finalists should not be given a euro spot! Come on saints" St Johnstone's David Wotherspoon delivers a brilliant ball to the back post, but no-one can reach it. Stevie May was just a couple of yards short of making a connection. Pete by text: "Why are the Scottish Cup runners-up still getting put into Europe? It hurts our co-efficient every time." There's a theme mounting here in textland. "It's important that St Johnstone just keep their discipline now with the game getting a little bit ratty." Tam Scobbie sends in a straightforward cross that Rosenborg goalkeeper Daniel Orlund flaps at. David Wotherspoon tries the same and Orlund is on his knees in the box. Not impressive goalkeeping from the 6ft 4in man. I don't want to tempt fate. However, if Rosenborg score again, St Johnstone would need two more in reply to progress as the Norwegians would have those important away goals should the aggregate be tied. The official attendance at McDiarmid Park is an impressive 7,850 - about double St Johnstone's usual attendance in the Scottish Premier League last season. Denmark winger Tobias Mikkelsen is taken off by Rosenborg coach Per Joar Hansen, with Czech Republic midfielder Borek Dockal coming on in his place. That shows the depth of quality in the Rosenborg squad. Rosenborg move forward with a 60-yard diagonal pass that Steven Anderson diverts over the bar. St Johnstone clear the corner. Derry City 0-1 Trabzonspor (Henrique) Paulo Henrique scores for Trabzonspor at the Brandywell, so Derry are a goal down on the night and 5-2 on aggregate. Hibernian 0-5 Malmo (Rantie) Tokelo Rantie nets for Malmo on the rebound after Hibs goalkeeper Ben Williams spills a shot from Jiloan Hamad. It is becoming even more of a nightmare for Pat Fenlon's side in Edinburgh. Summer signing Gwion Edwards replaces Nigel Hasselbaink for St Johnstone just after Jonas Svensson shoots wide for the visitors. Hibernian 0-6 Malmo (Hamad) Jiloan Hamad's strike goes straight through Hibs goalkeeper Ben Williams for Malmo's sixth of the evening. The scoreline at Easter Road matches Hibs' worst defeat in European competition, that previous 6-0 defeat coming in the Fairs Cup of the 1960-61 season at the hands of Italian side Roma. And there's still more than 20 minutes to go tonight! "It's been a horrible night." St Johnstone defender Steven Anderson is caught clumsily by Nikke Bille Nielsen, and the former Denmark Under-21 striker is yellow carded. A bit of frustration is creeping into the play of Rosenborg. Hibernian 0-7 Malmo (Kroon) Substitute Simon Kroon picks his spot to score Malmo's seventh on the night. It is now officially Hibs' worst defeat in European competition should the Edinburgh side fail to pull anything back at Easter Road. Rosenborg full-back Cristian Gamboa is playing really high up the park and he puts a cross into the St Johnstone penalty box that Alexander Soderlund almost converts. St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is forced into a change, with Steven Anderson having been injured in that latest goalmouth scramble and Gary Miller takes his place. Meanwhile, the tiring Stevie May is replaced with former Aberdeen striker Rory Fallon. With St Johnstone, who are still in pre-season domestically, tiring at McDiarmid Park, Rosenborg go close to levelling the tie. Borek Dockal shoots just wide from Jonas Svensson's pass. It took a deflection and again Saints do well to clear the corner. Scott in Granton: "Hibernian are a disgrace to Scottish football." I wonder if that comes from a disgruntled Hibs fan, gloating Hearts supporter, or a despairing neutral wanting any Scottish side to progress. St Johnstone are being forced into some desperate defending as Rosenborg's greater match fitness begins to tell. Can the Perth side hold on? Derry City 0-2 Trabzonspor (Henrique) Paulo Henrique fires in his second for Trabzonspor away to Derry City, who are heading out of the Europa League qualifying rounds. St Johnstone breath a sigh of relief as Rosenborg miss a great chance. Defender Jon Inge Hoiland should score from Alexander Soderlund's flick-on, but his shot is straight at goalkeeper Alan Mannus. Ronnie in Kirkcaldy: "Pat Fenlon took Hibs to two cup finals. We were an embarrassment in both. Tonight we are suffering a disgraceful hammering in Europe. A permanent stain on the club's reputation. No more excuses. Fenlon must be sacked." Hibernian 0-7 Malmo (agg 0-9) It's a humiliating defeat for Hibs as Malmo progress to face Swansea in the Europa League third qualifying round. St Johnstone 1-1 Rosenborg (agg 2-1) St Johnstone complete probably their best result in Europe, perhaps one of the best for a Scottish club, drawing 1-1 at home to Rosenborg but progressing thanks to Frazer Wright's first-leg winner. A few glasses are thrown on to the McDiarmid Park pitch as the defeat is greeted with dismay by Norwegian fans more accustomed to some degree of success in the Champions League. The contrast between McDiarmid Park and Easter Road Stadium is stark. A great result for St Johnstone while it is humiliation for Hibs against Malmo. "Tommy Wright's boys gave everything and more tonight and their fitness levels were great. Over the piece, they were the equal of a team whose budget is far higher." "It was awful. The people turned out, there was a lot of hope they could turn it round, there was a great tribute to Lawrie Reilly. But, as soon as the game started, they were second best all over the park. Malmo are a good side, but they aren't that good" Hibs' humiliation is made worse by it being officially the worst aggregate defeat for a Scottish club in European competition, surpassing Rangers' 12-4 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960 as the Germans headed for that famous 7-3 European Cup final defeat by Real Madrid at Hampden Park. Worst still was that 16,018 fans had turned out hoping that Hibs would recover from that 2-0 defeat in Sweden. St Johnstone progress to face Minsk, the side who finished sixth in Belarus last season. The first leg is at the Dinamo Stadium next Thursday. "Tremendous night. We dared to believe and we followed it through. It was a game in which we deserved to get the result we needed. " We lost a goal but we responded well. They started with a quicker tempo, but once we sorted that out, we showed courage. "It was a bit helter skelter at the end, but they had run out of ideas and were just humping balls into the box. It was maybe fate that Stevie May should start and score as he's done well in the lower leagues and proved a point tonight. "It probably won't sink in until tomorrow. I'll enjoy tonight and start thinking about Minsk in the morning." Derry City 0-3 Trabzonspor (Ozdemir) Linfield 1-1 Skoda Xanthi (Gault) Linfield skipper Michael Gault scores in the ninth minute of stoppage-time. "I couldn't remember much about my goal. I stuck a leg round the corner and I just managed to get it over the goalkeeper. "It is a feeling I won't forget in a hurry. "Over the last two seasons, I have gone on loan, but my goal has always been to make it into the team here and hopefully that is the start." Linfield 1-2 Skoda Xanthi (Marcelinho) Just as it looked like Linfield were heading for a famous victory of their own, Marcelinho gets his second for Xanthi and the Greeks now lead 2-1 on the night and will go through on away goals if it stays that way. "Disappointed, embarrassed more than anything else. "We'll look at it tomorrow and take it from there. Of course you look at yourself. "We were well beaten by a better side. But I don't want to put the supporters through that and I have to consider that as that's not good enough. "It is a poor performance. I can't defend that." "A couple of trips to Hampden have eased the pain, but the results in those finals puts the pressure back on. "The scoreline is going to be in every newspaper, they are going to be ridiculed, it will be all over social media. "The manager is going to be criticised and the pressure will grow if they don't start the Premiership season well. "I just want to go home, wake up and realise it didn't happen. But it did happen and the next 10 days are going to be critical for this club to prepare for Motherwell on the first day of the season." I leave you on a night of contrasts for Scottish clubs in Europe. Humiliation for Hibs, the worst-ever aggregate defeat for a Scottish club in Europe and it is Swedish outfit Malmo who will face Swansea in the next round. For St Johnstone, they overcame a side with a much greater European pedigree - and a vastly superior budget - to record one of the best results for a Scottish club in recent seasons. The Perth side march on to face Minsk from Belarus. Meanwhile, while Derry City's hopes after a brave display in Turkey were dashed at home to Trabzonspor, Linfield are in extra time and still have a chance of upsetting the Greek visitors from Xanthi. Thanks for your company. I am off to dream of more European glory nights - and try to dismiss the result from Easter Road from my mind.
