Weekend review22.07.2013 Gary Locke took his team south-west to Dumfries on Saturday to take on Second Division champions Queen of the South. With the match being played on a brand new astro-turf pitch, the gaffer elected to make a few changes to the side that put five past Raith Rovers in midweek. Mark Ridgers started the match in goals and Jordan McGhee featured at right back with Jamie Hamill pushed into midfield at the expense of Scott Robinson. Here's how the team lined up: In a match that was dominated by the home side, chances were few and far between for the Jambos. Jamie Walker came closest in the first half but his angled shot flew wide of the Queens 'keeper's left hand post. Much of the action took place in midfield, and Gary Locke introduced fresh legs at half time, in the form of Robinson and Jason Holt, to play alongside Callum Tapping. Queens continued to push for the breakthrough goal however, and will be aggrieved at not being able to break down the Hearts defence and an inspired Mark Ridgers.
Reaction Gary Locke acknowledged his team had been involved in a tough game but he was happy to take a clean sheet in difficult playing conditions. Billy King was another who found the going tough and he wants improvement for the next game. What the press said: "Queens were more punchy, pacy and slicker than their top-flight opponents and how Hearts' goal survived intact in the first half was something of a mystery." - Sunday Mail "Hearts' First Division hosts proved more than equal with Mark Ridgers having to produce a man-of-the-match display to keep them at bay." - The Sun What they said: "The sun shined as the home side dominated from start to finish. Hearts no doubt felt lucky to come away from Dumfries with a clean sheet as the Queens attack created a number of good opportunities without adding the finishing touch." - www.qosfc.com What we said: "Hearts survived a Queen of the South onslaught to leave Palmerston Park with a share of the spoils this afternoon. Despite coming under heavy pressure, the Jambos emerged from the match with a 0-0 draw, though they have Mark Ridgers to thank for keeping them in the game." - www.heartsfc.co.uk Hearts World |
