Selkirk trip for youngsters

A young Hearts XI heads to Selkirk tomorrow to mark the opening of the new Bob Mercer Stand at Yarrow Park (2.30pm).

Bob played for the Jambos in the 1920s and sadly passed away on the pitch at Selkirk in 1926 after suffering heart failure while playing in a reserve match for the Tynecastle side.

Having served in World War One, he suffered a severe gassing at the Battle of the Somme and his health never recovered, resulting in his tragically early death at the age of just 36.

Nineteen-year-old goalkeeper Jack Hamilton is the most senior member of the travelling squad heading to the Borders tomorrow.

Other confirmed pre-season fixtures for Darren Murray's U20s side are: July 12 - Hawick Royal Albert (a) 7.30pm, July 30 - Dalkieth Thistle (a) 7pm, Aug 9 - Fauldhouse Juniors (a) 7pm.
