Dunfermline 0-2 Heart of MidlothianFrom Hearts Media at East End Park. Hearts won their second friendly of the pre-season campaign at East End Park after goals from Andy Webster and John Sutton ensured the Jambos came out on top. John McGlynn made four changes to the team that faced Falkirk on wednesday night, with Jason Holt making his first start of the new season, and recalls to the starting eleven for Jamie MacDonald, Andy Driver and Scott Robinson. In the 20th minute, a quicksilver David Templeton run was crudely cut short by a flying lunge, Temps' assailant receiving a yellow card for his troubles. As the midway point in the first half approached, neither team had created much in the way of clear-cut changes, with both midfields and defences proving adept at stifling attacks. Soon after, another lively Jason Holt run was stopped in its' tracks by Pars skipper John Potter, who became the next player to go into the book. Finally, a real chance arrived and it fell to Andy Driver. A lovely passing move saw Holt fouled yet again, however the ball broke to Driver as the referee played advantage and his shot was well saved by Smith, although he should have done better. On the 33rd minute, the goal the Hearts pressure deserved arrived, and in spectacular fashion. A well hit Templeton corner was only partially cleared, and the ball broke for Andrew Webster, the vice-captain acrobatically hitting a scissor-kick half-volley into the roof of the Dunfermline net. Hearts continued to press for a second goal before the interval and it nearly arrived at the feet of defender-turned-attacker Ryan McGowan. A fine one-two with John Sutton played the Aussie in on goal but his defensive past betrayed him as his shot skewed wide. As the second half got underway, another opportunity fell at the feet of that man Driver. A slide-rule pass played the wide-man in, but with John Sutton in a better position for what would have been a tap-in, he elected to shoot and his effort was well blocked again by Smith. Driver was getting involved with everything by now. A superb cross-ball from McHattie was flicked down by Sutton and Driver's half volley was just over. Not to be outdone with Driver's contributions, David Templeton decided to get involved. Receiving a pass from the back, he turned his man and shot from 30 yards, the effort going just wide. With 15 minutes remaining, Hearts won a penalty. David Templeton was played in by Driver, he beat his man skilfully and was clattered from the back. John Sutton confidently blasted the ball home with aplomb to put Hearts two goals up. Hearts then made a quadruple sub, with Sutton, Templeton, Driver and Robinson all going off to be replaced by Prychynenko, Walker, Smith and debutant Dale Carrick. Walker and Carrick linked up to good effect down the left wing on several occasions. Walker played Carrick in and the young striker took an extra touch before his shot was blocked by Smith. With that, the referee blew for full-time. A hard fought win, with some excellent attacking play especially on the flanks, will be sure to please John McGlynn ahead of next weekend's final pre-season friendly at Rotherham.
