Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty determined to break Hearts and return to the top

Summer signing Lafferty netted his first goal for the Ibrox club in August's 2-0 victory over the Jambos but was part of a collective malaise in November's 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle.

Rangers will be looking to put Sunday's Co-operative Insurance Cup final agony behind them on Saturday when they host Hearts in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Striker Lafferty told Rangers News: "This season, we have had mixed fortunes against them.

"At Ibrox in August, we played well and won 2-0.

"I also managed to score my first goal for the club so that game will always stick in my mind.

"But then we went to Tynecastle at the end of November and suffered a 2-1 defeat. We didn't get going that day and Hearts probably deserved to win.

"So we know only too well what we need to do this weekend. We need to roll up our sleeves and get on with it."

As well as losing to Celtic at Hampden, Rangers suffered the shock result of the season so far in their last league outing when they lost 1-0 at home to struggling Inverness two weeks ago.

Lafferty added: "It was frustrating to lose our last league fixture against Inverness and the way it came about.

"I think every team has a night where nothing really goes right and that's what happened to us.

"But we need to ensure this was just a blip.

"We are fortunate in a way that we still have 10 league games left and not three or four.

"There is also another Old Firm game at Ibrox before the end of the season so there is a lot of football to be played.

"We had been on a great run of results before that defeat so hopefully we can go on another one.

"Hearts have been doing very well and have had some really good results in the last month or so.

"They are a strong, well-organised side, so we will need to be at our best to get three points."
