Vladimir Romanov makes surprise return to Hearts

Mar 28 2008 Exclusive by Gary Ralston

HEARTS owner Vladimir Romanov jetted into Scotland last night for only the second time this season.

Romanov will take in tomorrow's match at Tynecastle against Dundee United on a whistle-stop tour before flying back to Lithuania.

It will be the first time he has watched a game in person this season since his club's 4-1 defeat of Aberdeen at the Gorgie ground in November, although he took in the glamour pre-season friendly against Barcelona at Murrayfield.

United boss Craig Levein has been tipped for a return to his former club in the summer but Hearts insiders say discussions about a new boss are not part of Romanov's agenda on this visit.

Hearts are set to announce financial figures within the next week that will show them up to £38million in debt and Romanov is determined not to hide.

He is also keen to show support to the team as they bid to make the top six although Falkirk are three points in front with only two games to play before the split.

Romanov told sources in Lithuania this weekend represents the first time in months he has found time to travel to Scotland as a result of his other business demands.

Hearts fans have grown increasingly impatient with their absentee owner in recent times as the club struggles to maximise its potential.

There are no fan meetings planned over the next 48 hours but supporters are keen to be told by Romanov his vision for the future as past promises of SPL and Champions League glory remain unfulfilled.

Meanwhile, Eduardas Kurskis and Tomas Kancelskis are the latest Lithuanians to head home following an unsuccessful loan period.

Keeper Kurskis, remembered for his howler that gifted Rangers victory at Ibrox in December, and defender Kancelskis are back at FBK Kaunas in time for the start of the domestic campaign.

The duo arrived in January 2007 from Kaunas, a club Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov sponsors, but have both failed to make an impact in the first team.

A statement from Hearts read: "Both players were good professionals and we wish them well for the future."
