Rangers huffed and puffed, but they couldn't blow Hearts' house in. The light blues piled on the pressure but they could find no way past Hearts' stand in keeper Steven Banks, who played more like Gordon Banks, the legendary England goalkeeper.

Steven Banks was in for the 'injured' Craig Gordon, but Gordon along with Paul Hartley are the subject of much transfer speculation and it's more likely they were dropped for that reason.

Hearts boss Valdas Ivanauskas confirmed that Paul Hartley was dropped for footballing reasons, but claimed that Gordon was dropped because he hadn't recovered from the injury which kept him out of the Falkirk game.

Rangers made two changes to the side who had beaten Dunfermline 1-0 the previous week. Ugo Ehiogu came in to make his debut at the expense of Karl Svensson, while Libor Sionko replaced Chris Burke, who had signed a new contract this week.

David Weir had Rangers' first real chance of the game and was unlucky not to open his account for Rangers. He had a close range effort brilliantly saved by Banks, who obviously was out to impress during his big chance.

Allan McGregor showed that Banks was not the only goalkeeper on form when he got down to his right to save a Bruno Aguiar free-kick. Libor Sionko should have put Rangers ahead midway through the first half when the ball fell to him in the box from a Charlie Adam corner, he managed to put the ball wide though from just a few yards out.

Rangers were totally dominant in the second half, apart from two long range efforts from Hearts' Bruno Aguiar and Andrew Driver. Rangers fired everything they could at the Hearts goal but could find no way past. Their best chance came from Charlie Adam who should have done better with a shot but again Banks saved well.

Barry Ferguson did have the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was chopped off for offside, much to the dismay of the Rangers fans and players who thought Ferguson was well onside.

So the game ended in a 0-0 draw, and Rangers remained five points ahead of Hearts. But Hearts have slipped down to fourth place and Aberdeen are back up to third place, four points behind Rangers. The Dons also have a game in hand.
