Scotland 6-0 Faroe Islands By Colin Moffat Kris Boyd scored twice as Scotland made the perfect start to Euro 2008 qualifying against the Faroe Islands. Darren Fletcher knocked in from close range and James McFadden added a second goal in the ninth minute with a fine strike from 18 yards. Boyd scored the first of two penalties, with Kenny Miller claiming the second. Boyd raced through to claim his second before half-time and substitute Garry O'Connor saw his late shot slip beyond goalkeeper Jakup Mikkelsen. Interview: Scotland boss Walter Smith Scotland have been drawn alongside the Faroe Islands in four consecutive European Championship qualifying campaigns. The tiny North Atlantic nation have embarrassed the Scots twice before, earning draws in Toftir in 1999 and 2002. But there was to be no upset this time, with Walter Smith's men running riot after scoring twice inside the first 10 minutes. Miller has not yet found the net since his summer move to Celtic but the striker played a key role in those early goals. He left his marker for dead and threaded the ball across goal from the left for Fletcher to bundle it over the line. Miller then made a menacing run into the penalty area and the ball broke to McFadden, who swept a curling, low shot into the corner of the net. Fortune continued to smile on the Scots when a penalty was given for a trip on Boyd after 23 minutes. The award looked a soft one and the Rangers striker's spot-kick was not well executed but slid under Mikkelsen. Another penalty followed soon after for a rash challenge on Fletcher and Miller's effort was worse than Boyd's but slipped through the fingers of the luckless Mikkelsen. Boyd doubled his tally on 38 minutes, running on to a fine Fletcher pass and slotting into an empty net after Mikkelsen had blocked his initial shot. Some Faroe Island theatrics brought about yellow cards for Fletcher and Miller, who were replaced in the second-half by Gary Teale and O'Connor. Scotland were content to knock the ball around after the interval as the previously whirlwind tempo slowed to walking pace. Despite the drop in intensity, Mikkelsen remained the busiest player on the park, making two good saves to thwart McFadden. And Boyd was denied a hat-trick when the goalkeeper clawed away the striker's header. With five minutes remaining, O'Connor completed the scoring when he connected with a McFadden delivery and his side-foot finish squirmed its way past the exhausted Mikkelsen.
