NO WAY FOR JOSEDEFENDER Jose Goncalves has no chance of playing for Hearts in their UEFA Cup tie against Sparta Prague next month. Coach John McGlynn last night revealed the Portugal Under-21 star has yet to return to training after suffering a serious hip problem during the summer. McGlynn said: "Jose has a long-term injury. There is no chance of him being involved in the Sparta Prague games." Goncalves has had a string of injuries since signing from FC Thun in January. He was stretchered off with concussion during last season's Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hibs then missed the final against Gretna after tearing his hamstring. The emergence of Christophe Berra has eased Hearts' problems in defence since Andy Webster's controversial departure. But Goncalves played for the Swiss side against Sparta in last season's Champions League and his knowledge of the Czech side would have been invaluable.  Taken from the Daily Record |
