Hibs against Gretna pick of CIS Cup ties

HIBS will play host to Gretna in the third round of the CIS Insurance Cup.

Arguably the tie of the round could see former Hibs players John O'Neil and Derek Townsley return to Easter Road with the First Division leaders, who will be eager to pit their wits against the Edinburgh side after taking Hearts to extra time and penalties in the final of last season's Tennent's Scottish Cup.

The Tynecastle side, meanwhile, will make the trip to Clackmannanshire to face Second Division side Alloa.

Third Division amateurs Queen's Park have been handed the chance of another giantkilling act.

The Spiders defeated Aberdeen in a penalty shoot-out at Firhill last week in a match that was switched from Hampden because of the Rolling Stones concert. Now they have been given another home tie in the third round, with Motherwell.

Celtic, the holders, will play host to St Mirren, who were defeated 2-0 at Parkhead in the Bank of Scotland Premier League just over a fortnight ago. Rangers face a potentially awkward trip to Dunfermline, where they were held to 1-1 draw in the league last month.

Dundee United have a Tayside derby at St Johnstone while Livingston travel to Kilmarnock. Inverness Caledonian Thistle will host Falkirk in another all-SPL tie.
