Hearts coach missing work permitROB ROBERTSON August 15 2006 Eduard Malofeev, the sporting director at Hearts, does not have a Home Office permit to work in Great Britain and has been unable to officially carry out his duties at the club since he was appointed. The 64-year-old Belarussian arrived at Tynecastle six weeks ago. He was appointed by Vladimir Romanov, the club owner, who felt his experience could help Hearts qualify for the Champions League group stages and sustain a challenge for the Bank of Scotland Premierleague title. He was to work with Valdas Ivanauskas, the head coach, on a training regime designed to improve the players' fitness. Romanov announced his appointment as he entertained the players in France before their training camp in Austria. Malofeev worked with the players while they were abroad, as he was legally entitled to do, but he has been banned from doing anything with them since they returned to Scotland. A Hearts spokesman confirmed last night that Malofeev, formerly the head coach of Kaunas, Dinamo Minsk and the Belarus national team, is still waiting to get his permit: "He is visiting the club just now, seeing the stadium, the training facilities and meeting people. "We are not paying him as he is not officially working for the club. We have applied for his work permit and it is still being processed. Until it is he will not be officially employed." A Home Office spokeswoman said last night they could not comment on individual cases and would only be putting out a statement when a decision had been reached on Mr Malofeev's application. An SFA spokesman said they were not involved in the matter. When he announced Malofeev's appointment, Romanov described him as "a consultant", although club literature still refers to him as "sporting director". Malofeev will remain in Scotland as he waits for his work permit and has been joined at Hearts by Anatoli Korobochka, who will take up a role as director of sport. "Korobochka is the director of sport, Malofeev is the consultant and Valdas is head coach," said Romanov. "All three have my full support. Korobochka came on board at the beginning of August. His duties are to work with the coaches of the younger players, to co-operate with the academy. "Malofeev is consulting on creating training programmes for the pre-season and season. Actually, it is all three who are working together on this programme and then we have the chance to compare these programmes and discuss them getting the best for the club. This is how we are trying to work now. There is no hidden agenda." Taken from the Herald |
