Severin aims to return for second week

ABERDEEN midfielder Scott Severin is on the road to recovery after successful knee surgery. The player is due to fly out to Portugal to meet up with the club's physio John Sharp, who is there with the youth squad.

Severin is suspended for the opening SPL game of the season at Easter Road on 29 July but manager Jimmy Calderwood, in South Africa just now for the first team's pre-season preparations, is confident he will make their second game against Inverness at Pittodrie.

"The news on Seve is great," said Calderwood. "The surgeon has told us the operation was a great success. It was just a tidy-up job, there was no major damage. It means the maximum Seve is likely to be out for now is four weeks. But I am hoping the spell in Portugal working with John Sharp will have Seve ready for the Caley game."

Aberdeen face Bloemfontein Celtics in the opening game of their South Africa tour tonight and then have back-to-back clashes with Jomo Cosmos in Pretoria and Johannesburg on Sunday and Wednesday. The Pittodrie club's final game is against Wits FC tomorrow week.
