BREW: LEE'S NOT YET A DANE DEAL

DUNDEE UNITED hope to hear next week if their bid to lure Lee Wallace to Tayside has been successful - so he can join the club on their preseason tour of Denmark.

As revealed by Record Sport Craig Brewster has placed the 18-year-old Hearts defender at the top of his shopping list in the hope of solving his problematic left-back position.

The Jambos are due to arrive home from their pre-season tour of southern France today when they'll immediately step up their search to name a new manager to take over from Valdas Ivanauskas.

And that's when United boss Brewster is hoping to get the green light to snap up Wallace on loan in a similar deal to the one which saw Charlie Mulgrew move north from Celtic in January.

Brewster hinted he may try get Mulgrew back for a second loan stint but Wallace remains the No. 1 target.

He said: "Lee Wallace is still my first choice and nothing has changed on that front.

"I think there are certain circumstances like the managerial situation at Hearts which is one aspect that may have delayed things. I spoke to Pedro Lopez at Hearts in the early part of last week and I'm just waiting to hear from him.

"It would obviously be nice to get things sorted out in time for the Denmark trip so we'll just need to wait and see."

As well as Wallace, Brewster is targeting a right-back and a new keeper to challenge Derek Stillie for the start of the new SPL season on July 29.

But with Steven Robb, Noel Hunt and Craig Conway already on board, Brewster is refusing to panic.

He said: "We've got until the end of August to do business and of course the season doesn't start until the end of July.

"That's when a lot of players maybe find themselves in a position to move and moves are made."

United take on Morten Wieghorst's Norselen as part of their pre-season preparations in Denmark, where Brewster will also look out for potential signings.

He said: "At this stage you can't write anything off. If something comes up while we're in Denmark then we'll obviously look at it.

"I think we need young legs and energy throughout the team to make us more of a threat."
