Romanov invites Mileson to Kaunas

VLADIMIR Romanov is to invite Brooks Mileson as his personal guest to the Lithuania v Scotland game in Kaunas in September.

His move follows last week's Tennent's Scottish Cup final between Hearts and Gretna.

This week the Gretna owner took out a newspaper advertisement to praise "the magnificent supporters of Hearts for the incredible ovation they gave our team" after the penalty shoot-out at Hampden.

"It was a really generous act of Brooks Mileson to praise our great fans in this way," said Hearts owner Romanov.

"Gretna fans were also absolutely superb, driving their team with such passion on to a fantastic performance, giving us a really tough game."

Speaking from his home in Kaunas, Romanov added: "I will be in contact with Brooks to invite him to be my personal guest for the Lithuania v Scotland international game.

"It will be an honour if he will accept my invitation to join me in my home city of Kaunas."

Meanwhile Paulo Teixeira, the agent of the Cameroonian international striker Albert Meyong, said yesterday he had yet to receive an official offer from Hearts for the player.

Meyong wants to leave Belenenses, who have just been relegated from Portugal's top division, but Teixeira stressed that the Edinburgh club had to do more than intimate interest through a third party if they wanted to take the 25-year-old to Tynecastle.

"We have not had an official contact so far," Teixeira said. "There has been contact through an agent, Paulo Barbosa, who is working for the club. "But we should have an official offer. Agents are made for opening the way and after that they should stand aside. We need an official contact, and Barbosa has known that from day one."

Barbosa is understood to be part of the recruitment network used by Romanov.

"I know he's a reliable agent and must have some relationship with the club," Teixeira continued. "But there are a few clubs interested, including one in France and two in Spain, and Hearts were the last of all to say that they were interested."

Having said that, Teixeira added that Meyong found the idea of moving to Edinburgh appealing. "He is interested in British football, and Scottish football, and right now he would move forward the Hearts option," explained Teixeira. "The prospect of playing Champions League football is one that appeals to Meyong."
