Gordon signs new deal with HeartsHearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon has signed an extension to his contract with the Tynecastle club, which ties him to the club until 2009. The 23-year-old Scotland international has been a key player for Hearts in their quest for trophies this season. His existing deal was due to expire in the summer of 2007, but Hearts have moved to secure his future for a further two years. "This is fantastic news for everyone at Hearts," a club spokesman said. "Once again it shows the intention of the club to retain its best players and attract further top signings to Tynecastle. "It is quite clear that Craig is an instrumental part of our squad, and, as such, this is an excellent day for all Hearts fans." Gordon is now established as Scotland's first-choice goalkeeper and his decision to remain at Tynecastle represents some much-needed good news for Hearts after several days of bad press. Owner Vladimir Romanov sacked head coach Graham Rix and director of football Jim Duffy on Wednesday and appointed Valdas Ivanauskas as interim head coach, the club's fourth in under a year.
