Hibernian 2-0 Hearts

Hibs made it 13th time unlucky for city rivals Hearts as the 10-man SPL leaders crashed to defeat at Easter Road.

Hearts striker Edgaras Jankauskas was sent off on 62 minutes after angrily pushing Scott Brown.

And Hearts' 12-game unbeaten run was undone when Guillaume Beuzelin stabbed in a great cut-back from Ivan Sproule.

Hibs doubled their lead when Garry O'Connor had time to chest down a David Murphy delivery and blast the ball into the back of the net.

It had been a very even contest until Jankauskas was dismissed, with both defences on top in a tense affair.

But Hibs made their advanatge count and revenged the 4-0 mauling they got at Tynecastle earlier this season.

Predictably, the game started at a whirlwind pace but was very scrappy, with referee John Underhill kept busy by a rash of niggling fouls.

Hibs were first to carve out an opening when O'Connor headed a Brown cross wide from 12 yards in the ninth minute.

Four minutes later, Hearts' prolific midfielder Rudi Skacel's turn and shot from 20 yards had Hibs goalkeeper Zbigniew Malkowski diving to his left to save.

Hibs sprung a terrific break in the 19th minute when Michael Stewart released the busy Riordan down the left but O'Connor failed to turn in his strike partner's low cross from eight yards.

Skacel's deflected strike saw Malkowski block awkwardly with chest, while Samuel Camazzola sent a low shot wide from a promising position as Hearts enjoyed a good spell.

On the half-hour Kevin Thomson sent Riordan through against Steven Pressley and the striker fired wide from 16 yards after leaving the Scottish international defender trailing.

Riordan then showed great skill to cut inside two players but his shot was too high to trouble keeper Craig Gordon.

The visitors had a wonderful to go ahead early in the second-half but Hartley shot tamely at Malkowski after Skacel had picked him out.

And Heart were down to 10-men just after the hour after a rush of blood from Jankauskas.

Both sides were fully commited in a tense derby

The former Porto striker, who had been booked for persistent fouling in the first-half, foolishly pushed Brown over after the pair had come together in a sliding challenge.

Hearts were being pinned back and Hibs made their pressure count after a good move down the right flank on 78 minutes.

Gary Caldwell slipped a great pass to substitute Sproule and the speedy winger cut the ball back for Beuzelin to prod a shot in off the post.

Minutes later, Hibs were further ahead when the Hearts defence was posted missing.

Full-back Murphy had time to pick out O'Connor in the penalty box and the striker pulled the ball down on his chest before drilling a shot beyond Gordon.

With Hibs well on top, O'Connor was inches away from grabbing a second goal as his powerful curling strike missed the top corner by a few inches.
