Robbo targets quick return to SPL actionMARK BONTHRONE JOHN ROBERTSON has vowed to bounce back from the disappointment of his spell as Hearts manager by leading Ross County into the SPL. Tynecastle legend Robbo ended a seven-week spell out of football when he succeeded Alex Smith in the Victoria Park hot seat. And while the Jambos’ all-time record goal-scorer admitted he still has regrets over the manner of his Gorgie exit, he revealed he is now fully focussed on moving County forward. "The regret is there, I won’t hide from that. I wanted to finish what I had started at Hearts. Who wouldn’t? But we had just six months there, Donald Park and I, and that was that. But I wish them every possible success. "It’s been fantastic to be back in football after what has been a long seven weeks. It was a strange experience being unemployed for the first time in 25 years." Robertson has already led Inverness Caley into Scotland’s top flight and he wants to do the same with their Highland neighbours. "I’ve inherited a strong group of players and there is obviously just something holding them back from winning the title. It’s up to Donald [Park] and myself to work on that. Our aim is to get to the SPL. "It may not be this season but hopefully we can do it very quickly." And Robbo believes County’s chances have been boosted greatly by assistant Park’s decision to snub Hibs in favour of a move to Dingwall. "He had a very good offer from Hibs and it was obviously a difficult decision for him being Edinburgh-based. He’s like signing a new player." Taken from the Scotsman |
