Capital gains from SPL coffers

HIBS and Hearts will share a bounty of more than £2 million from the SPL.

The Capital clubs finished third and fifth respectively in the season just past and will receive a share of the league's revenue based on their position in the table.

The exact amount each SPL club receives is worked out on a sliding scale which brings greater rewards for finishing higher.

Under a formula agreed by the clubs, all SPL revenues, once running costs and payments to the Scottish Football League and to the relegated club are stripped out, are split with 48 per cent shared equally among the clubs and the remaining 52 per cent divided on where each finished in the League. Although the final figures have yet to be worked out, the News understands the 12 clubs stand to share between £12 million and almost £14 million.

As a result, Hibs will pick up 9.5 per cent of the pot with, according to sources, each percentage point equal to between £120,000 and £140,000 depending on final calculations.

This means that Hibs will receive at least £1,140,000, a figure that could increase to £1,330,000. If the final payment is at the upper end it will mean Hibs getting a bonus of almost £500,000 more than they did for finishing eighth last season.

Hearts will receive somewhere between £960,000 and £1,120,000 as a reward for their efforts last term. But, because they slipped from third place the season before to fifth last time out, they will get around £200,000 less in bonus payments.

As champions, Rangers will receive the lion's share, 17 per cent, of the bonus money, equivalent to between £2,040,000 and £2,380,000, with runners-up Celtic picking up 15 per cent (between £1,800,000 and £2,100,000).

1 Rangers: 17 per cent (£2,040,000 to £2,380,000).
2 Celtic: 15 per cent (£1,800,000 to £2,100,000).
3 Hibs: 9.5 per cent (£1,140,000 to £1,330,000).
4 Aberdeen: 8.5 per cent (1,020,000 to £1,190,000).
5 Hearts: 8 per cent (£960,000 to £1,120,000).
6 Motherwell: 7.5 per cent (£900,000 to £1,050,000).
7 Kilmarnock: 7 per cent (£840,000 to £980,000).
8 Inverness CT: 6.5 per cent (£780,000 to £910,000).
9 Dundee United: 6 per cent (£720,000 to £840,000).
10 Livingston: 5.5 per cent (£660,000 to £770,000).
11 Dunfermline: 5 per cent (£600,000 to £700,000).
12 Dundee: 4.5 per cent (£540,000 to £630,000).
