HAMILL: WE CAN CATCH HIBS

Hearts youngster Joe Hamill insists the Jambos can still catch Hibs and reach third place in the Bank of Scotland Premier League despite dropping two points against relegation-haunted Dundee.

The 20-year-old rescued a point for John Robertson's men, scoring with his first touch to cancel out Fabian Caballero's 54th-minute opener.

The Jambos had been expected to fight for a UEFA Cup place again, but have been left trailing 11 points behind Tony Mowbray's young Hibs side at the halfway stage of the campaign.

However, Hamill believes the gap is not insurmountable and insists we can expect a battle between the Edinburgh clubs right through until May.

"We can still catch Hibs and third place remains our aim for the season," said the youngster. "This was probably two points dropped because we have to be coming to places like Dens Park to win, but we're not too downbeat.

"I don't stay in the city so I don't really feel the pressure too much, but we're definitely up for the challenge of fighting with Hibs for a place in Europe.

"They are going really well, but it's only halfway and we can catch them."

He added: "I'm glad to get a goal, it was my first touch. I just ran into space and Lee Miller did well to find me with a header.

"The ball went through a lot of bodies before it went in, but we deserved that bit of luck because we dominated for a long time."

Meanwhile, Robertson believes they need to find a regular goalscorer to fill the gap left by Mark de Vries' departure.

"I don't think we hurt Dundee enough in the first half because we totally dominated and created some very good chances," he said.

"But we contributed to our own downfall in a way because our passing was poor.

"I'm disappointed to get only a point because of the way we controlled the game and the amount of possession we had. We lacked a bit of clinical finishing. We need a goalscorer, but then every manager in the land is saying that just now."
