ROBBO IS A RAE OF LIGHT FOR GORDBy Gary Ralston GORDON RAE reckons if John Robertson is half as good a manager as he was a striker he is going to the very top. Former Hibs defender Rae suffered time and again as Robertson revelled in Edinburgh derbies for almost two decades in which he scored a record 27 goals. Rae, now boss at junior side Newtongrange Star, had nothing but respect for Robertson as a player and believes he can be just as successful as a boss. He said: 'John was right up there as a striker with the likes of Ally McCoist, Joe Harper, Charlie Nicholas, Frank McAvennie and Mo Johnston. He was great at sniffing out chances and became a real thorn in our flesh at Hibs. 'Like all great strikers he had a terrific ability to anticipate rather than react and I'm pleased to see him doing well in management. 'It was a side of the game he was always destined to become involved with. 'He's working with a great man in Donald Park and they've done brilliantly together so far. 'John's record so far speaks for itself and, as a Hibee, I only hope he doesn't get too good too quickly at Hearts.' |
