MAN BY MANDec 17 2004 Compiled By Anthony Haggerty HEARTS Craig Gordon 6 Scotland international flapped once or twice at cross balls and made great save from Denes Rosa's initial effort but helpless to prevent striker tapping home at third attempt. Alan Maybury 6 Made a welcome return from domestic suspension. Patrolled his beat well enough but pinned back for much of the contest due to the excellent movement of Hungarian forwards. Patrick Kisnorbo 6 Had clearly learned his lesson after the red-card shame against Schalke. Stuck to his task, kept it nice and simple and did not get involved in any nonsense. Steven Pressley 6 Dragged all over the place by quick thinking slick passing movements of Hungarians and completely taken out by Lipcsei's defence-splitting pass that set up Rosa for the goal. Andy Webster 6 Was booked and struggled to cope with the speedy movement of attackers and just as culpable as the skipper for loss of goal. Entitled, however, to ask for help from midfielders who failed to track Rosa's clever forward run. Mark de Vries 6 Fired in two decent efforts in the first period which tested the goalkeeper, but despite his height, the big Dutchman does not enough headers. Paul Hartley 8 Hearts' top scorer wrongly believed he had given the Jambos the lead only for the referee to rule it out for handball and also saw two first-half efforts saved. Robbie Neilson 7 The hero of Basle was unlikely to ever repeat his feat but put in a gutsy display. Crunching and snapping into tackles he helped out in both defence and attack. Jamie McAllister 6 Possesses a wicked left foot and had Szucs scrambling to tip over a first-half free-kick. Replaced by Ramon Pereira in 63 minutes as Hearts pushed for a goal. Graham Weir 5 A surprise inclusion in place of Dennis Wyness. Thankless task for one so young especially in a European tie of this magnitude and still a bit lightweight on the European stage. Michael Stewart 8 Slotted brilliantly into midfield and added the extra dimensions of skill, dig, passing and experience. Probed away all night but to no avail. SUBSTITUTES Ramon Pereira 4 Came on for McAllister but the gifted Spaniard didn't seem likely or capable of turning the tide in Hearts' favour. Dennis Wyness 4 Replaced Patrick Kisnorbo with less than 20 minutes to go but like Pereira he was never given a clear sight of goal. Kevin McKenna 3 Big Canadian thrown on for final 12 minutes but it was a forlorn task. Subs not used - Moilanen, Hamill, Berra, MacFarlane. Ferencvaros - Szucs, Vukmir, Gyepes, Balog, Rosa, Lipcsei, Zavadszky, Leandro, Tozser (Huszti 50), Bajevski (Takacs 87), Penksa (Sowunmi 65). Subs not used - Udvaracz, Szkukalek, Somorjai, Bognar. Referee - Levan Paniashvili (Georgia). Taken from the Daily Record |
