Portuguese eyed MarkPAUL KIDDIE HEARTS striker Mark de Vries could have been playing for Braga against the Jambos in tonight's UEFA Cup clash at Murrayfield. Top scorer for the Gorgie outfit in the last two seasons, the powerful target man shot to the attention of big-spending Braga boss Jesualdo Ferreira over the summer. The 29-year-old was identified as a possible recruit as part of the Portuguese squad’s ongoing rebuilding but plans for a swoop were shelved after Hearts priced De Vries out of the market. "Mark de Vries is a player we know very well," said Rui Aguas, Ferreira’s No.2 at the Estadio Municipal. "We looked at him on video during the summer with a view to doing a deal for him. "He was one of our targets before the transfer deadline but we were priced out of any move by Hearts." Having ditched a move for the Dutchman, Ferreira snapped up Portuguese internationalist Joao Tomas on a free transfer from Real Betis. |
