Tynecastle trial for Dutchman

HEARTS boss Craig Levein has brought Dutch winger Dries Boussatta to Tynecastle on trial.

The 28-year-old is out of contract with AZ Alkmaar in the summer and is hoping to impress during his stay in Gorgie.

Frozen-out striker Gary McSwegan, meanwhile, has won a month’s loan deal with Luton Town after impressing in a trial for the English Third Division side.

The 31-year-old has joined the Hatters with a view to making the move permanent if he continues to impress during his stay at Kenilworth Road.

Boss Joe Kinnear is on the look-out for a new front man to bolster his attack, and the former Dundee United striker caught the eye earlier this week as he almost single-handedly destroyed Norwich’s second string. McSwegan scored two and set up the other three goals in a 5-1 triumph.

McSwegan failed to clinch a switch to Barnsley after a similar loan earlier this season but Kinnear is delighted to give him a chance to end his Tynecastle nightmare with a move south as Luton attempt to keep their promotion bid on track.

"McSwegan is an experienced player and is here for a month and is keen to come and join us," said Kinnear.

Stephane Mahe, meanwhile, is set to face Kilmarnock tomorrow despite having hardly trained this week after suffering a leg knock against Rangers. The Frenchman took part in the warm-up yesterday and will also do only light work today ahead of the Rugby Park clash.

"Stephane will play tomorrow and hopefully he can come through okay," said boss Craig Levein, who has added striker Graham Weir to his squad following the withdrawal of the injured Andy Kirk and the suspension of Ricardo Fuller.

Levein admitted he is considering moving centre half Kevin McKenna into an attacking role in the absence of Fuller. "That has been in my mind but it’s only one of a number of options for me," he said. "I could also decide to switch him during the game but will decide later.

"Kilmarnock are always a good side on their own pitch and I am definitely looking for an improvement on our last display there. We may lost only 1-0 but we were very poor." Kirk is due in Glasgow later today for further tests on his back injury, with Levein fearing an operation will rule the front man out for the remainder of the season.
