SCOTLAND captain David Weir entered the Scottish Football Association Hall of Fame

, but was more elated by the three points garnered from Lithuania in the European Championship qualifier.

The Everton defender claimed his 50th cap for his country in the 2-1 win in Kaunas. But taking six points from their two opening qualifiers, including Saturday's 6-0 win over the Faroe Islands, was enough to satisfy the former Hearts man.

Weir said: "It means so much to win my 50th cap, but to win it with a win makes it that bit more important.

"When they scored late on, it turned the game around a bit. But we deserved it and there are a lot of things to be happy about.

"I have always been delighted to play for Scotland and it was nice to come back and get the opportunity - it is nights like this which make it all worthwhile. We will just look to the next game now - this is a very tough group.

"We have started well and have to be positive and enjoy it now and take it for what it is. But we know there is a lot of hard work to do but cannot do better than we have so far."

Scotland's next group game will be the visit of World Cup runners-up France to Hampden Park on 7 October. But, while the Goodison Park centre-half insists nobody is getting carried away with the initial success, he believes the French will be taking a different view of the trip to Glasgow.

Weir said: "There is still a long way to go but we have to be happy with what we have done so far. We have only played two games and there are 12 to play in the group. Obviously, if we continue the way we have, we will not be far away.

"We will just move on to our next game against France, which will be a really tough game, so there is no point getting carried away. But I think France may start looking at it a bit differently now."
