Two new Lithuanians makes seven at HeartsAugust 29 2006 Hearts are expected to add two more Lithuanians to their squad before the transfer window closes this week with Andrius Velicka and Kestutis Ivaskevicius understood to be close to joining the club. Velicka, a striker with FBK Kaunas, watched Valdas Ivanauskas' side defeat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-1 at the weekend and is set to agree terms before Thursday's deadline, along with team-mate Ivaskevicius, who is a winger. The pair have already guested for Hearts having featured in the 2-0 pre-season win over the Spanish side, Osasuna. Velicka, 27, who was one of four trialists including Ivaskevicius, 21, made a lasting impression by scoring a superb opener from an acute angle. The quartet returned to FBK Kaunas immediately after that game, however one of the four, Marius Zaliukas, signed for the Gorgie club just over a week ago and made his league debut on Saturday. Should Velicka and Ivaskevicius seal moves to Edinburgh, they will join compatriots Saulius Mikoliunas, Deividas Cesnauskis, Edgar Jankauskas, and Zaliukas, who have been called into Lithuania's European Championship squad for the forthcoming games against Scotland and Italy, and a seventh countryman, Nerijus Barasa, at the club. Hearts will play Alloa at Recreation Park after the second division club decided against moving their CIS Cup tie to a bigger ground, when the draw for the third round of the competition was made yesterday. Allan Maitland, the club's manager, said: "We're not going to change the venue of the game. Our supporters will want to see Alloa play teams like Hearts at our own ground."  Taken from the Herald |
