Hibs v Malmo: ‘Lucky’ to get away with sevenMARK WALKER MALMO’s Simon Thern reckoned Hibs’ players were so bad they looked like a bunch of nursery kids, as the Swedes trounced Hibs 9-0 on aggregate on one of the most shameful nights in Scottish football history. Malmo taught Hibs a humiliating lesson – and were just as quick to put the boot in off the park as they were to score on the pitch. Thern said: “Once we started playing, we passed the ball quickly and it made them look like they were a bunch of kindergarten kids. It was clear they were playing for the crowd at the start. They started making big slide tackles in front of their 16,000 fans so they could get big cheers. And they tried to get extra energy from it. But we quickly made them frustrated.” Malmo skipper Jiloan Hamad reckons Hibs were lucky to get away with just seven, though he loved the Easter Road atmosphere. He said: “It was an amazing match for us. We created a lot of chances and were ruthless. We were worth the win and could have won by more. They played well for the first ten minutes and then we got into it and took over. After the first game, we knew we were the better team. They had to attack and we knew we are very good on the counter-attack. What a feeling it was. Ever since we beat Rangers a few years ago I’ve longed for these type of games. There’s something special about the Scottish crowds.” Taken from the Scotsman |
