Dunfermline Athletic face Survival Saturday 'cup' clash against Hearts!THE first friendly for Jim Jefferies' men will be a 'cup' clash against his old love, Hearts, who are also in administration. They'll compete for the 'Supporters Direct Scotland Fans' Cup', which has been sponsored by QTS and backed by Pars legend Roy Barry. The captain of Dunfermline's 1968 Scottish Cup winning side said, "Both Dunfermline and Hearts fans are experiencing very similar emotions and challenges right now and coming together to benefit each other's clubs is typical of the passion both sets of fans have shown already this year as they both strive to save their clubs and ultimately take their clubs over. "I hope fans of both clubs, and fans of other clubs too, come out in force for this game." Paul Goodwin, head of Supporters Direct Scotland, said, "Amongst the many pre-season friendlies happening across the country we hope this will become the 'must attend' game for fans of all clubs in Scotland to show backing for the supporters of the Pars and Hearts. "The gate receipts will be handed directly to BDO who will split the money between the clubs and will be used immediately for day to day costs in running both clubs." Margaret Ross, on behalf of Pars United, said, "We are delighted to welcome Hearts and their supporters to East End Park for a quite unique game. "Both sets of fans have raised huge sums of money this year to not only help save their clubs but also to put themselves in a good position to buy our clubs. "The gate will be split between the clubs and the match sponsorship, thanks to QTS, will be split between Pars United and the Foundation of Hearts. "We hope that fans of other clubs will come along too as part of the football family that exists in Scotland and beyond. "Our thanks also must go to Supporters Direct Scotland for organising the cup and for continuing to back our efforts to buy our club." Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 concessions. Today's match starts at 2pm but fans are being invited to gather before kick-off with legends from both clubs at PJ Molloy's. It will be open from 11am with the likes of Ian Westwater and Gary Mackay heading along for live music, auctions and raffles of signed strips, footballs and other prizes. It's £5 to get in and there will also be a stall selling Hearts memorabilia at the away end of the ground. http://www.dunfermlinepress.com |
