Scandinavian group will not make bid for Hearts by Friday deadlineJamie Borthwick 11 July 2013 08:36 BST A consortium of Norwegian and Swedish businessmen interested in buying Hearts has decided not to bid by the Friday deadline set by the club's administrators. The Scandinavian group said it would be "inappropriate" to bid against a fan-led takeover attempt, which is being organised under the Foundation of Hearts banner. The Foundation of Hearts has been pledged monthly cash contributions from 5000 supporters and will lodge its bid for the club before the end of the week. With the six figures behind the Nordic group all claiming to Hearts fans "first and foremost", it has decided that they will not look to oppose the supporter-backed effort. A spokesman for the Scandinavians said: "The group remain interested in Heart of Midlothian FC, but have decided not to field a separate bid by the deadline set by the joint administrators. "As Hearts fans first and foremost they feel it would be inappropriate at this stage to bid against fan driven takeover bids already in place. "They wish all bidders best of luck and will continue to monitor the situation and remain available and interested in talking to the club in the future to see how they can contribute to a healthy and stable Heart of Midlothian FC in the long term." At least two firm bids are expected to be tabled to BDO before the weekend. A bid put together by American backers and fronted by Scottish businessman Bob Jamieson is reported to be one likely offer. Former Scottish Rugby chief Gordon McKie is part of another UK-based consortium that is interested in the Tynecastle club, but is unlikely to bid against the Foundation of Hearts for now. |
