Michael Ngoo Set for Full-Season Loan at Yeovil Town

After a successful spell at Hearts over the second half of the season, Michael Ngoo is now set to spend the entirety of the 2013-2014 season with Championship side Yeovil Town.

Despite the influx of younger squad members coming through in the first half of last season, a handful of Liverpool's youngsters found themselves set for minutes elsewhere--Jack Robinson had a successful spell at Wolves, Adam Morgan was briefly at Rotherham United, Jon Flanagan was widely reported to be headed out before injuring his knee in mid-January, and Michael Ngoo, a player who'd simultaneously confounded and impressed in the youth ranks, headed north to join Danny Wilson at Hearts. What followed was a successful spring in which Ngoo scored five goals in seventeen appearances, including the equalizer in his debut to draw level in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

So today's news that Ngoo will be set for another loan spell can only be seen as positive, as he'll be joining up with recently-promoted Yeovil Town for the entirety of the 2013-2014 Championship campaign. Yeovil powered through the League One playoffs last season after a loss in the first leg of their semi-final tie with Sheffield, winning 2-0 in the return leg and kicking on to defeat Brentford in the Wembley playoff final.

Ngoo is quite a unique striker. Tall and lanky, he's surprisingly good on the first touch as well as in possession. He's moderately quick, uses his body well, and is adept at finishing with both feet. He has become something of a fan favorite due to his unorthodox style and a classy tribute to the 96.So what's the problem? The impression I get from watching him is that every decision takes just a little too long to make. It works at the youth level because he can bully defenders off the ball while he makes his mind up, but there are significant doubts whether that would work at the next level.

This seems like a great move for all involved; Ngoo will have a chance at regular first-team football again, Yeovil will have a determined and talented young player, and Liverpool will have another chance to watch how he adapts to more regular first-team football. Hopefully he again makes the most of his time away, and that whether or not his long-term future is at Liverpool, his time at Yeovil helps him along the way to a successful career.
