Danny: "We can be heroes"

Danny Wilson insists that this year's young Hearts side have the chance to become "heroes".

The newly appointed Tynecastle captain is refusing to look at anything other than the positives as he bids to lead the Jambos to safety this coming season.

Speaking at this morning's press conference at Riccarton, Danny said: "I think it would be the biggest achievement in the club's history, if we were to overturn this.

"Obviously we're young and it is going to be difficult but if we can make ourselves competitive and give ourselves a real chance of doing this then these young boys, myself included, we've got a chance to make ourselves heroes at a club like this.

"That's what you want as a footballer. Obviously you'd rather be going for cups and titles and what-naught but this would be just as big."

Reflecting on Gary Locke's decision to hand him the armband for this season, Danny said: "It makes me really proud to be captain. Maybe a few years ago, if I was here, then it wouldn't have happened as there would've been more senior players but the gaffer's given me the honour of being captain here and it's one that I'm looking forward to taking on.

"I think it's important that even if anyone else had been given the captaincy that we all need to show real leadership on the pitch this year, especially with all the young ones coming through."
