Proud to be skipper

02.07.2013

Delighted Danny Wilson today spoke of his pride at being handed the captaincy of Heart of Midlothian Football Club.

As revealed by Hearts News earlier today, the 21-year-old was given the armband by Gary Locke and the defender is relishing the prospect of leading the Jambos into the forthcoming SPL campaign.

"It is obviously a real honour to captain a club of this stature and I was delighted to accept the offer," he said.

"Heart of Midlothian Football Club is a footballing institution and it is a real privilege to be given this responsibility.

"The gaffer has shown a lot of faith in giving me the armband and I'll do everything I can to repay him.

"The whole squad is desperate to do well for the manager. This has been a really tough time for him but we are all right behind him.

"There is no doubt the season coming up is going to be a difficult one but we are ready for the challenge. The situation we are in has brought the squad even closer together and we can't wait to get started."

The new skipper has been impressed by the supporters' response to the plea by administrators BDO to buy season tickets adding: "Once again the fans have shown just what great supporters they are.

"They really have got behind the club again at a difficult time and all credit to them for doing so much in such a short space of time. We were all at the rally on Sunday and some of the fund-raising efforts have been incredible.

"A packed Tynecastle can give the players a real boost and hopefully we will have big crowds cheering us on throughout the season."
