HEARTS are now so desperately hard up they need handouts from former players to buy PAINT and LIGHTBULBS for Tynecastle.

Health & Safety issues at the ground have been flagged up.

These are related to odd jobs like replacement of lightbulbs and cosmetic work — all of which is done under the guidance of the stadium manager.

But following last week’s announcement wages weren’t being paid, the club’s ex-stars stepped in to help out.

Big-hearted former Tynecastle stars set up the ‘1874 Fighting Fund’ in November to safeguard the club — with all money going into a separate bank account.

Now they’ve made some of that available for work to be done around the stadium.

One ex-player admitted: “The situation is terrible. There were jobs needing done but they were dragging on.

“That’s why we were happy to make some money available to them. But the situation remains very worrying.”

Hearts fans have failed to respond to the club’s pleas to snap up season tickets to bring in much-needed cash. Only a few hundred season-tickets have been sold over the weekend to add to the figure of around 7,000 already bought.
