Wilson’s future in jeopardy

LIVID Danny Wilson was last night reconsidering his Hearts future over “worthless” assurances.

It was only 18 days ago the former Rangers and Liverpool star agreed to sign on at Tynecastle.

And he did so purely on the strength of answers given to him by the club’s under-fire hierarchy about the financial situation.

Scotland defender Wilson — who played 14 games on loan last season — had concerns before pledging to join on a free transfer from the Reds.

But he was told by Jambos chiefs there would be a future for the club.

Yet, Wilson has now been left stunned by the latest alarming events at the crisis-hit club which is again teetering on the brink of oblivion.

The 21-year-old is on holiday and has been looking for a new home in the capital.

Yet, while he has signed a contract for Hearts and been paraded by the club, SunSport can reveal he’s yet to be registered at the SFA — making him still technically a Liverpool player.

At the moment he temporarily remains a Jambo courtesy of the loan arrangement which doesn’t formally end until June 30.

But given events Wilson is now unsure if he really wants to play for them next season.

A pal said last night: “Danny’s bewildered and deeply disappointed by the club’s statement.

“He’d asked the right questions as he had his worries as much as anyone. But he was assured that things would be fine. Now, however, he looks on those so-called assurances as hollow.

“He’s not angry with Gary Locke or director of football John Murray — just those above them.

“He’s also gutted for the fans. They’ve been brilliant to him and already done so much for the club.”

Wilson turning his back on the club would be a massive blow for Hearts who have announced a fire sale of their first team squad.

He is arguably their most saleable asset.

Hearts couldn’t parade Wilson quickly enough last month — and also used him to promote kit and season tickets.

And back then Wilson said: “I said all along that if the opportunity arose to sign for Hearts I would take it.

“I did ask the question about the club’s future.

“You read and hear things and it can be un-nerving. But the club have said that there is nothing for the players to concern ourselves with.”
