Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Bayern Munich: Player ratingsDominic Fifield at Wembley The Observer, Saturday 25 May 2013 23.03 BST Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben shoots to score Roman Wiedenfeller 8/10 Wonderful saves from Mandzukic and Robben, flinging any part of his body in the way. Defeat was cruel given his heroics and he ended in tears. Lukasz Piszcek 6/10 Dortmund thrived when he combined with Blaszczykowski, but how he cursed his inability to steal Ribéry's backheel a minute from time. Neven Subotic 6/10 His goalline clearance from Müller's shot provoked a Klopp celebration usually associated with a goal, but on his knees for the winner. Mats Hummels 7/10 Authoritative, yet elegant in possession, and his challenge to deny Ribéry in full flight caught the eye, but unable to suffocate the winner. Marcel Schmelzer 5/10 Prone when Bayern lofted balls into the space at his back and poorly positioned, then helpless on the goalline, as Mandzukic converted. Sven Bender 7/10 Set the tone for his team's aggressive opening with an early challenge on Martínez. Constantly hassling and pressing, but eventually quelled. Ilkay Gundogan 7/10 Industrious and eager. When he commanded the centre, his team excelled, with his penalty clinically converted. When he tired, so did they. Jakub Blaszczykowski 6/10 All muscular running down the channel, but seemed to fade as Bayern's strength imposed itself on the contest. Marco Reus 8/10 A gliding menace, tearing at opponents and eating up space. Had impressed before coaxing a horrible challenge from Dante to earn a penalty. Kevin Grosskreutz 5/10 Unsettled Lahm by crunching him more than sprinting beyond him, and booked for tussling with Ribéry. Dortmund missed Mario Goetze. Robert Lewandowski 7/10 Tormented Boateng, who rather diminished in his presence. But the Pole craved a clear opening and, with Neuer unflappable, it never came. SUBSTITUTES: Julian Schieber (for Blaszczykowski 90) Nuri Sahin (for Bender 90) Subs not used Mitchell Langerak, Sebastian Kehl, Moritz Leitner, Oliver Kirch, Felipe Santana Manuel Neuer 8/10 This was a proper test, the first time he had been called into five first-half saves all season. Excellent throughout. Outstanding. Philipp Lahm 6/10 Bayern needed more of his galloping presence on the flank, and he stretched Schmelzer when he could venture forward. Dante 5/10 Booked for a desperate foul on Reus and then penalised for planting his left boot in Reus's midriff to concede the penalty. Jérôme Boateng 4/10 Laboured horribly when Dortmund were upbeat, exposed too often by Reus and Lewandowski. Uncomfortable and unconvincing. David Alaba 7/10 Timely blocks when Blaszczykowski pulled back that hammer of a right foot, and one fizzed shot that drew yet another fine save. Javi Martínez 6/10 A regular threat in the air at set plays but he could not quite dominate central midfield in the manner to which he has become accustomed. Bastian Schweinsteiger 7/10 Hurt his ankle in the warmup and initially becalmed but trundled into the contest and had a late shot blocked. Arjen Robben 8/10 The Dutchman started profligately, turned supplier with his wriggle round Weidenfeller for Bayern's first and ended a match-winner. Thomas Müller 6/10 Exasperated first by Subotic's clearance and then his tug back as the forward raced through on goal. Bayern craved more influence. Franck Ribéry 8/10 His darts beyond Piszczek troubled Dortmund and it was the Frenchman's cute pass for Robben that paved the way for Bayern's lead. Mario Mandzukic 7/10 Awkward to stifle in the air and, having earlier been denied by a fingertip save, drifted into space to score the opening goal. SUBSTITUTES: Luiz Gustavo Dias (for Ribéry 90) Mario Gomez (for Mandzukic 90) Subs not used Tom Starke, Daniel Van Buyten, Xherdan Shaqiri, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, Claudio Pizarro Taken from the Guardian/Observer |
