League Cup: Buddies enjoy Parisian rendezvousPublished on Tuesday 19 March 2013 00:00 WHAT do a globe-trotting BBC Radio Five Live sports reporter, the drummer with famous Scottish band Deacon Blue and The Scotsman’s chief rugby writer have in common? The answer was discovered in Paris on a cold, dark Saturday night where in a corner of the vast media room in the Stade de France three grown men were spotted excitedly talking about one thing (besides the France v Scotland Six Nations match they had been sent over there to cover) ... St Mirren’s chances of winning a first major trophy in 26 years. Iain Carter, who has covered Andy Murray’s great career moments, commentated on Tiger Woods’ rise and fall, countless Ryder Cups and World Cups, and whose mother hails from Paisley, was deep in conversation with our own David Ferguson, born in Paisley, and Dougie Vipond, he of the BBC and pop stardom, and born in Elderslie, on whether Danny Lennon’s Saints could match Smith and Bone’s 1987 Scottish Cup winners at Hampden Park the following day. The trio of Buddies completed their reporting duties from Scotland’s final RBS Six Nations fixture against the French, with Ferguson and Vipond agreeing to relay reports direct from Hampden to Carter the following day. You can take the boy out of Paisley... Taken from the Scotsman |
