Miracle man Mair is in cup final contentionMar 16 2013 by Paul Behan, Paisley Daily Express Saints defender Lee Mair is on the brink of a miraculous comeback in the League Cup Final. Last week, the former Aberdeen star was told he had virtually no chance of recovering from a stomach injury in time for the Hampden showdown with Hearts. However, the 32-year-old centre-half – who was crocked during the 2-1 SPL defeat at Dundee earlier this month – was able to rejoin his Buddies in training this week and even played for the reserves against Dunfermline Athletic on Thursday night. Now Saints gaffer Danny Lennon is hoping Mair will be fit for inclusion in the squad which will head to Hampden. Last night, Lennon told Express Sports: “Lee has certainly given himself every opportunity of playing. “He came through 45 minutes of a reserve fixture on Thursday night and trained again today, so it’s looking very positive for him. “There’s no doubt that the experience of the older players such as Lee will be key going into a game of this magnitude.” http://www.paisleydailyexpress.co.uk |
