Hibernian v Hearts as it happened

1215:

Good afternoon and welcome to our coverage of the Edinburgh derby.
1217:

Hearts have one enforced change. Darren Barr is suspended and is replaced by Callum Tapping in central midfield. John Sutton and Michael Ngoo are paired in attack again as Hearts go 4-4-2 at Easter Road.
1220:
LINE-UPS

Hearts: MacDonald, Mullen, Webster, Wilson, McHattie, Stevenson, Tapping, Taouil, Novikovas, Sutton, Ngoo. Subs: Ridgers, McKay, G Smith, Prychynenko, Holt, Carrick, Walker.
1222:

So, what about the Hibs team? Who has manager Pat Fenlon chosen...?
1222:
LINE-UPS

Hibernian: Williams, McGivern, McPake, Claros, Griffiths, Wotherspoon, Stevenson, Done, Maybury, Taiwo, Robertson. Subs: Murdoch, Deegan, Doyle, Handling, Harris, Forster, Thomson.
1226:

We have about 25 minutes to go until kick-off. What a turnaround we have seen since last season where Hearts won all four of their matches - three in the SPL and one in the Scottish Cup final. This season there have been two draws between the clubs, plus Hibs knocked Hearts out of the Scottish Cup in December. The last time Hibs beat Hearts in the league was May 2009.
1229:

Please don't be shy when it comes to sharing your thoughts on the game today. You can get in touch with us by sending texts to 80295 or tweets using the hashtag #bbcsportscot.
1230:

Here's a tweet from Graeme Aitken @aitkengraeme: "Two meaningful games left this season and this is the first! C'MON THE JAMBOS!!! #HMFC#bbcsportscot"
1234:

In terms of the playing conditions today, let's just say you'd need to be wearing long johns and simmet if you were scaling Arthur's Seat and looking down on Easter Road. It's sunny for the moment but five minutes ago there was a snow flurry. Will any outfield player wear gloves - the Honduran Jorge Claros perhaps? Or is he just too hard for that?
1236:

Ah, the banter. Former Hearts midfielder Rudi Skacel ‏@RudiSkacel51, now at Slavia Prague: "Good luck today Hearts family! #foreverinourshadow"
1238:

Martin from Glasgow: "Great to hear Hamill back training, but a shame for Mullen if he gets dropped. He's more than earned his starting spot and is by far the best free-kick taker currently in the team."
1240:

Kieran McLauchlin is not in the mood to wait to assess the ref's performances this afternoon before passing judgement: "@bbcsportsound: The referee for today's Edinburgh derby is Euan Norris. #BBCSportsound" Absolute disaster waiting to happen today."
1241:

BBC Scotland football pundit John Robertson: "Pat Fenlon is going 4-5-1, Hearts are going 4-4-2. It's not a match-up so hopefully there will be a bit more room for players to go and play football today."
1243:

Alan, Penicuik: "If Hearts were to secure a place in the top six, but subsequently slip into administration after the split, would they be locked into the top 6 and therefore safe from any possible threat of relegation? If so, do you think this would have an influence on when a team may announce such an insolvency event, or when they may seek a new manager in order to try and obtain a top six place..." Great question, Alan. Anyone know the answer to this one?
1246:

Sunshine on Leith is being belted out by the home fans. What an anthem that is.
1247:
KICK-OFF

Hibs take the kick-off. Game on!
1248:

Gary Pilkingtino: "Watch out jambos, sparkys gonna get ya! #GGTTH #BBCSportsound"
1250:

Jorge Claros launches a long free-kick into the Hearts box and Danny Wilson rises to clear the early danger for the visitors.
1250:

BBC Scotland football pundit John Robertson: "It's going to take a good 15-20 minutes for this game to settle down."
1252:

Which Arvydas Novikovas will we see today? The Hearts winger showed a nice few early touches there. Can he stay involved in the game?
1253:

Ryan McGivern, who has looked the part since joining Hibs on loan from Manchester City in January, sweeps up the danger, opting not to wait for his keeper to come out and collect.
1254:

But McGivern is shown a clean pair of heels by Michael Ngoo out on the touchline. Ngoo races away and curls a cross into the box, just ahead of the despairing John Sutton.
1255:

It's the first chance of the match as the troublesome Michael Ngoo wins a header, knocking the ball on for John Sutton whose right-footed low shot is comfortably saved by Ben Williams.
1257:

And Ngoo gets away from James McPake on the left wing 35 yards from goal. The Englishman races into the penalty box but his cross is too close to the Hibs goalie. Ngoo has spun away from McGivern and McPake in the opening 10 minutes. The warning signs are there for Hibs.
1259:

Harrumph, from John Braid: "Don't know what the fuss is about the Edinburgh derby: the last 2 have been dire and I fully expect more of the same today #BBCsportsound."
1302:

Fraser Mullen sends in an unimaginative free-kick into the Hibs box and James McPake stoops to head clear. However, Jorge Claros concedes possession and Hearts feed the ball to that man Michael Ngoo, who bamboozles Ryan McGivern with a flurry of lanky legs and crosses the ball across the box...behind his two team-mates.
1304:

Alan Maybury and Michael Ngoo engage in a spot of shoving and are spoken to like naughty schoolboys by referee Euan Norris.
1306:

Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths gets involved in the game for the first time, racing down the left wing and crossing, just too heavily, for David Wotherspoon. The Hibs midfielder loses possession and the game swings to the other end.
1307:

Hearts have Hibs pressed back and John Sutton's powerful header was heading into the back of the net but was blocked by his own team-mate, Michael Ngoo.
1308:

Michael Ngoo, yet again, causes panic in the Hibs defence. On this occasion he beat one man out on the left, cut inside and crossed the ball between the Hibs centre-halves. The on-rushing John Sutton seems to be caught off guard and the ball bounces off his chest and into the arms of Ben Williams.
1310:

Hibs defender Ryan McGivern rises highest to meet the free-kick to the edge of the box, setting up Englishman Matt Done whose left-foot shot is saved by Jamie MacDonald - that's the first attempt on target by the home side.
1315:

Arvydas Novikovas arrows a free-kick into the Hibs box where Ryan McGivern heads the ball to safety.
1316:

BBC Radio Scotland commentator Paul Mitchell: "The last back-to-back goalless Edinburgh derbies were 20 years ago." This game surely has goals in it.
1317:

The ball bobbles around the edge of the Hibs box and eventually falls to Ryan Stevenson, who was leaning back like a limbo dancer when he tried a shot at Ben Williams' goal. And guess what? Yes, the ball sailed over the bar.
1321:

Lovely skill by Scott Robertson to collect a Tom Taiwo ball into the box, round his marker and get a shot at the Hearts goal. Good positioning by Jamie MacDonald limited the chance of a goal. It's a decent save.
1323:

Fraser Mullen is certainly not holding back with his tackles. Having been warned for an earlier hefty challenge, Mullen slides in on Matt Done and spends the next few moments hirpling around the pitch. The physio is on for the young Hearts defender.
1326:

Ah, dear. Fraser Mullen is finished for today. On his way round the pitch to be replaced by Brad McKay, a Hibs fan dressed as Super Mario gives him dog's abuse. He'll dream about that tonight and wonder if it really happened.
1327:

The sun has been replaced by snow. This is the sort of change in weather that has tourists to Scotland's capital thinking the world is about to end.
1327:

Tom Watson is sneaking a peek at his phone at the pictures: "At cinema with my wee boy watchin Nanny McPhee. It's dire. Is the football any better? #bbcsportscot#ggtth" Someone call an usher! In response to your question, Tom - aye, but just as warty.
1331:

Classy defending by Alan Maybury as Ryan Stevenson collects Michael Ngoo's pass into the box and is about to pull the trigger when the Irishman slides in to dispossess him. That was like watching Bobby Moore at his best.
1332:

Matt Done jinxes past two Hearts defenders out on the left wing before crossing the ball far too close to Jamie MacDonald and he collects with ease.
1333:

Centre-back Danny Wilson misses the chance to put Hearts ahead, as he evades James McPake and David Wotherspoon at the back post and heads Arvydas Novikovas's free-kick wide from three yards. That should have bulged the net!
1335:
HALF-TIME

Hibernian 0-0 Hearts
1338:

BBC Radio Scotland football pundit Craig Paterson spares a thought for Hearts youngster Brad McKay who came on for the injured Fraser Mullen to makes his debut, at the home of his main rivals, with the snow swirling in his face: "He will be asked, 'Do you remember your first taste of first-team football?' It could hardly be worse."
1344:

The Sportsound guys are wondering if Hearts debutant Brad McKay is the first Brad to play in the SPL. Hmm, I think so.
1347:

Russell: "Brad Halsman plays with the Maryhill Magyars." Cheers, Russell. Well, if Partick Thistle win promotion from the First Division Mr Halsman could be the second Brad to play in the SPL. He should get that on a business card.
1350:

Here we go with the second half. Callum Tapping and Mehdi Taouil of Hearts get us under way.
1353:

The snow has gone and the sun is out as Leigh Griffiths dribbles towards the touchline, away from the Hearts goal. No chances yet in the second half.
1354:

The Hibs fans enjoy mocking Ryan Stevenson's highly hopeful - or high and hopeful - volley from 25 yards. It sails high over Ben Williams' crossbar, hopelessly.
1355:

Irvine Welsh ‏@WelshIrvine: "The Edin derby is footballing equivalent of Carl Douglas track 'Kung Fu Fighting'. You get excited at start then soon remember it's s&*&^." We have edited that last word in the interests of taste and decency. The famous author certainly has a way with words...
1358:

Argh. Michael Ngoo smacks a shot well wide of the Hibs goal with his left boot from the corner of the penalty box. I think it was John Sutton in the middle aghast at the waste.
1359:
YELLOW CARD

Kevin McHattie goes into Euan Norris's book for a professional foul on rampaging Hibs midfielder David Wotherspoon.
1401:

Matt Done is enclosed in the corner of the Hearts half with the chance to win a corner kick for Hibs. Ah, but why do that when you can just hit it out of play and concede possession? That was a poor decision by Done.
1402:

A change for Hearts: Jamie Walker is on for Arvydas Novikovas.
1403:

Ryan Stevenson smacks a shot high over the Hibs bar - I think that's three horrible efforts by the Hearts midfielder.
1404:
YELLOW CARD

Jamie Walker is up-ended by Alan Maybury and the Hibs defender is booked.
1405:

The first piece of real skill in the second half comes from an unlikely player - Hearts centre-half Andy Webster, with his back to goal, keeps the ball in the air with his extended right leg, swivels and volleys a left foot shot at the Hibs goal, where Ben Williams dives to his right to save.
1408:

Another change, this time for Hibs as Matt Done comes off for Alex Harris.
1409:

Text from anon: "This is one of the poorest displays in the spl this season...and I'm a Dundee fan."
1411:
YELLOW CARD

Breaking news: Records books are being extended at Easter Road... Records books are being extended at Easter Road... Brad McKay becomes the first Brad to be booked in the SPL, we think. The Hearts youngster makes a challenge on fellow sub Alex Harris that was as clumsy as TV sitcom favourite Miranda dusting expensive ornaments.
1413:

Brad McKay's free-kick into the Hibs box falls for Michael Ngoo and, instead of lashing at it with his left foot, he takes a touch and his eventual shot is diverted by the alert Lewis Stevenson.
1417:

Euan Norris waves away the penalty appeals of the visiting fans and Callum Tapping as Hibs full-back Alan Maybury barges the Hearts man aside as he surged into the box.
1419:

Where is Leigh Griffiths, I was asking myself? The Hibs striker had been utterly anonymous all afternoon but popped up in the Hearts box to volley a shot high and wide from 12 yards on his weaker right foot.
1420:

We have 15 minutes to go at Easter Road. Will there be a goal? Please? Meanwhile, Eoin Doyle comes on for Hibs midfielder David Wotherspoon.
1421:

Mehdi Taouil is booked for a cynical foul on Hibs midfielder Tom Taiwo.
1423:
DISALLOWED GOAL

Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths thunders a free kick off the crossbar and the ball comes down at least two feet over Jamie MacDonald's line, but the goal is not given!
1424:

I have seldom seen a clearer example of a ball crossing the line after cannoning down off the bar. It was a goal, pure and simple.
1426:

Hibs have the wind in their sails from that injustice. That might push them forward in these last nine minutes.
1428:

Former Easter Road favourite Kevin Thomson is about to come on for Hibs. He has agreed to play for nothing until the end of the season.
1430:

Three Hearts players work a complicated free-kick routine that goes horribly wrong as pesky Jorge Claros gets in the way. Sometimes it's best just to launch the ball into the box...
1431:

Tom Taiwo makes way for the return to Hibs of midfielder Kevin Thomson. His former Hibs team-mate, the Celtic captain Scott Brown, is on his feet applauding.
1434:

Hearts certainly had the better of the first half, but neither side has impressed after the break. That disallowed Leigh Griffiths free-kick will be the talking point of the match.
1434:

We have one minute left of the 90.
1434:

Three minutes of injury time to be played. Eoin Doyle wins a corner for the home side.
1435:

Hearts get the ball clear and move up the pitch to try to snatch a winner.
1436:

As the snow returns to Easter Road, John Sutton is a fraction away from reaching a looping cross into the box. The Hibs fans held their breath there!
1438:

Leigh Griffiths's corner from the left goes out towards the right wing where Eoin Doyle picks it up. His cross from the right is headed away brilliantly by Hearts sub Brad McKay, with Scott Robertson ready to nod it home from three yards for a last-minute winner.
1439:
FULL-TIME

Hibernian 0-0 Hearts
1441:

No prizes for guessing what Pat Fenlon's going to be asked about post-match. That really was an incredible miss by the refereeing team. Does anyone know if Fifa supremo Sepp Blatter was watching?
1443:

Ronnie in Kirkcaldy: "It was a replica of Frank Lampard's goal in South Africa. I didn't care much about that one but I did care about Griffiths goal today!"

Mat From Glasgow: "What an absolute disgrace that neither the referee or linesman did not see that ball come down at least 2 feet over the line. We all saw it on the TV in real time so how could someone standing 10 feet away not??"
1445:

Tom Watson: "Even I could see that was over the line & I'm following on live text..."
1447:

We're expecting to hear from Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon shortly...
1447:

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon: "I've seen it a couple of times - it's that far over the line its embarrassing."
1448:

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon: "I'm frustrated for my players more than myself. It was going to take something special to win the game and that was something special from Leigh.

"Rather than me, it should be the person who's making the decision who's out here answering questions about it.

"As a manager I'm accountable, referees should be accountable too."
1451:

The Hibs boss has a good point, in all the controversy about the goal not being given, let's not forget it was a terrific free-kick from Griffiths, who had been well marshalled by the Hearts defence throughout the match.
1457:

Back to Hearts sub Brad McKay and his American-sounding first name. Someone has been in touch to say St Mirren had a Bradley Coyne on their books. Avid Buddies fan Chick Young is not so sure his team ever had a Bradley in their number. In any case, was he a Brad or a Bradley?
1458:

We're hoping to hear from Hearts interim manager Gary Locke.
1458:

Raging Bull, Paisley: "What a joke that was. I had quite a bit of money on Griffiths to score but yet the linesman walks away with hundreds of pounds for doing a terrible job. Time for change."
1502:

Hearts interim manager Gary Locke: "I haven't seen it [Leigh Griffiths' free-kick] again. It was a great strike. I'd need to see it again. There wasn't a lot of quality. The pitch wasn't conducive to getting the ball down and passing it. I thought Brad McKay acquitted himself really well. If you come in and you take your opportunity then you have a chance [of staying in the team]. The effort and commitment was first class. All in all, a draw was a fair result."
1504:

Look out at 18:00 GMT for the highlights of Saturday's SPL matches plus Annan's defeat of Rangers at Ibrox in the Third Division. The best bits of Hibs v Hearts will be online at about 23:00 GMT. Thanks very much for joining me today. All the best.
