Jason's mixed emotions

24.02.2013

Hearts starlet Jason Holt was delighted to get his first Tynecastle goal, but admitted the joy of his strike was tempered by the defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Tynecastle on Saturday.

Although Jason scored an excellent goal that levelled proceedings at 1-1 soon after half time, Hearts conceded two more goals from set pieces that ultimately proved costly.

"I was thrilled to get a goal but I can't enjoy it because we didn't get the result", Jason explained to the press after the match.

Despite enjoying a run in the first team along with his fellow Riccarton graduates, the results haven't been coming so frequently for this young Hearts side. Putting aside the disappointment of the here-and-now, Jason felt these ups and downs would prove valuable for the youngsters later in their careers.

"It'll make us better players in the long run," he said. "You can't expect it to be great fun every week and we won't win every game, but these experiences are possibly more important than the ones where we win."

Jason brushed aside claims that he and his teammates were struggling due a lack of experience on the park, pointing out that Hearts fielded three Scotland internationals in the starting line-up, and that they couldn't lean on their elder statesmen all the time.

"We have experienced players like Andy Webster and Darren Barr on the park," he stated. "They help us through the games but we need to learn ourselves as well."
