McGlynn: "Unacceptable defeat"

16.02.2013

Hearts boss John McGlynn was an angry man after his side's "unacceptable" defeat to Kilmarnock at Tynecastle today.

Paul Heffernan became the second Killie player to net a hat-trick at Tynecastle this season as Kenny Shiels' side won their fifth match on the trot in Gorgie.

Chatting after the match to the press, the gaffer lamented his side's defensive play and lack of concentration.

"It was a sore one to take. To lose 3-0 to Kilmarnock is unacceptable", said John. "We've been caught on the counter by a cross ball, then we haven't defended a corner well."

"Defensively, we were poor. There have been massive changes at the back this season, and we've lost Marius now", he continued. "Kilmarnock have taken their chances, we haven't. In both boxes, we weren't committed enough."

Hearts were dealt a further blow as Darren Barr was stretchered from the pitch after a sickening clash of heads with Danny Wilson, leaving a large blood-stained patch of grass in the aftermath.

John confirmed that Darren had concussion, and continued to receive medical attention in the dressing room throughout half time.

"Darren's got concussion and a bad cut to his head. He received oxygen treatment in the dressing room upon his arrival."

Finally, despite a disappointing result, John urged his young side not to get disheartened and to look ahead to the next game against Inverness a week today at Tynecastle.

"The young boys know this is a learning process. When they have time, they enjoy it. It's not just the young boys who've let us down though. They need to take it on the chin."
