McGlynn: Not too downbeat09.02.2013 Hearts manager John McGlynn tried not to be too downbeat as his side fell to a 3-1 defeat to Dundee Utd today at Tannadice. Goals from Johnny Russell, Willo Flood and Michael Gardyne killed off the Jambos' chances, despite a late goal from Michael Ngoo, and their misery was compounded by a red card for Ryan Stevenson mid-way through the first half along with an injury for Marius Zaliukas. Despite the deficit, Hearts could have emerged with something from the match as Ngoo hit the woodwork twice from long-range in both halves, and will feel aggrieved not to be leaving with a hat-trick. Speaking after the match, the gaffer was disappointed that the red card had ruined the enjoyment and flow of the game for the crowd, and praised his side's spirit. "The red card killed the game," he said. "It was a very good game for 25 minutes, although we were behind. Big Michael's shot hitting the bar was unlucky." "To lose a goal, our captain, and then go down to 10 men was too much for us. "Dundee Utd are a difficult team to get back level with 11 men, never mind 10." On the topic of the red card for Ryan, the manager chose not to comment on the matter further until he'd viewed the incident for himself. "I haven't seen it again. We'll look at it ourselves to see if it's worth appealing and we'll take it from there. That won't help us for today though, what's done is done." Hearts World |
