The kids are alright

Young starlet Jason Holt looked back on the biggest game of his fledgling career with pride, as he played a central role in a famous Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Easter Road on Saturday.

Despite being down to 10 men, Hearts held on to earn a penalty shoot-out for the right to return to Hampden Park in March for the League Cup final, winning out 5-4 on kicks from the penalty mark.

Speaking after the match, an excited Jason spoke of his anticipation that had already started building over what will be a massive day in his, and his teammates' careers.

"The lads are buzzing, we all feel we thoroughly deserved it. All we can talk about now is the final, we're all looking forward to another trip to Hampden."

"We dominated the first half, and although admittedly we got lucky with the penalties, sometimes you need a bit of luck."

The significance of reaching a 2nd cup final in the space of 10 months was one not lost on the 2011 SPL U19 player of the year, and he pointed out the good this would do for the club in the long term.

"Today was a massive game for us. We've done brilliantly to win the tie. It's massive for the club in all aspects, including finance, and we're looking forward to the big day now."

Finally, with the starting line-up featuring no fewer than 7 Academy graduates, and an average age of 22, many saw John McGlynn's team selection as a gamble. However, the gaffer was justified in his selection as his young stars performed admirably on the day.

One person who wasn't surprised was Jason, who revealed his confidence in his own ability, and that of his squad mates.

"We may look a young team on paper, but we're all good players. It's testament to the Academy staff that so many of us were out there today."
