Hearts try Art again

HEARTS want record breaking hitman Arturas Rimkevicius to be the man to solve their striking crisis — after failing a trial with the club seven years ago.

The 29-year-old Lithuanian free agent claims he has agreed terms at the Tynecastle outfit and expects to become a Jambo when the transfer window opens on January 1.

Rimkevicius hit a record 35 goals in 36 games for Siauliai in Lithuania’s top division last season — and Hearts have managed a measly 14 in 16 league SPL games this term.

The Jambos are also currently operating under a SPL transfer embargo after failing to pay their October wages on time.

But that expires later this month — meaning Rimkevicius, who FAILED the trial in 2005, could make his debut against Hibs on January 3.

The striker told Lithuanian media that owner Vladimir Romanov has already promised him Hearts will come through their current financial struggles.

Rimkevicius said: “He reassured me and that is enough for me.”

Meanwhile, Hearts boss John McGlynn admits he faces a huge task to lift his players for tomorrow’s visit of Aberdeen.

McGlynn revealed last weekend’s Scottish Cup 1-0 defeat by Hibs at Easter Road had left both himself and his players shattered.

But he said: “Last Sunday was a sore one and has taken a bit of getting over.

“It was tough to cope, but I managed to keep the razor blades and shoelaces away!

“Each season, you get low points, but we need to get over it.

“There is no magic wand here. You either crumble or rise above it.”
