Hibs 1-0 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts crashed out of the Scottish Cup at the first hurdle today as an own goal from captain Marius Zaliukas sent Hibs through to the Fifth Round.

Hearts made two changes from the side that were defeated by Celtic on Wednesday night, with Medhi Taouil and Arvydas Novikovas replacing the injured Jason Holt and Dylan McGowan.

From kick-off, Hearts almost took a quick lead. A decent ball from Novikovas found Callum Paterson at the back post, but the teenager's downwards header was saved well at the near post by Ben Williams.

Soon after, more contained Hearts pressure yielded a corner. Jamie Walker's whipped ball in found Zaliukas, whose header took a massive nick off a defender and had to be well saved by Williams. Had the header been hit cleanly, it may have resulted in a goal.

The game was struggling to come to life, with both sides playing a long ball style that Hearts in particular found easy to deal with. A quick break saw Novikovas get to the edge of the box, and although his cross was overhit, the ball hit the post and rolled out for a throw.

At the half time break, Novikovas failed to re-appear and was replaced by Andrew Driver.

Immediately after the restart, Darren Barr fired a rasping shot just past Williams' post.

With 8 minutes to go, David Wotherspoon beat McHattie on the right wing, and his speculative shot took a massive deflection off Zaliukas to beat Jamie MacDonald and send the 13,000 home supporters wild.

Time ran out with Hearts failing to create a meaningful chance, and with that their Scottish Cup defence ended.
