HEARTS boss John McGlynn last night hailed the McGowan brothers for giving fans something to cheer about during grim times for the club.

Off-field matters have cast a dark cloud over Tynecastle as the Jambos fight for survival.

But McGlynn reckons the Aussie siblings have provided some respite from the doom with their exploits on the pitch.

Midfielder Ryan McGowan has nailed down a place in the Socceroos squad with his displays for Hearts and the 23-year-old started in yesterday’s 2-1 win over South Korea.

Younger brother Dylan, 21, also impressed in last week’s 1-1 draw with Inverness and McGlynn is proud of the first brothers to play for the Jambos since John and Chris Robertson two decades ago.

He said: “I was hugely impressed by Dylan in Inverness. He gave us a real bite in midfield.

“The brothers linked up really well, with Dylan winning the ball and looking to feed it out to Ryan on the right.

“Dylan is similar to his brother – he is a winner who puts in 100 per cent.”

McGlynn was handed another boost yesterday as keeper Mark Ridgers returned from a knee injury in the Under-20s’ 4-2 win over Motherwell.

The 22-year-old said: “It was a bit unexpected but I enjoyed being back.”
