John McGlynn says Hearts deserved loss to Dundee

Published on Monday 5 November 2012 12:00

JOHN McGLYNN today labelled Hearts’ defeat by Dundee as the worst performance of his tenure so far. Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Dens Park leaves the Tynecastle club languishing ninth in the Scottish Premier League and their manager admitted they deserved nothing.

Matt Lockwood’s free-kick in the first half secured three points for Dundee, who nevertheless remain bottom of the league. McGlynn
acknowledged that Hearts simply didn’t perform.

“It’s hard to take any positives from that game. There are none. It was probably our poorest performance over 90 minutes,” he told the Evening News. “The best we could have got would have been a draw, but we got what we
deserved. Nothing.

“We’ve been playing so well for so long and you
realise that isn’t always going to happen. I appreciate we haven’t been getting the results that I believe we
deserve even though we have been playing well. You always worry about the day when we do play badly
because the players are human and that bad day was going to come along some time.”

McGlynn said the rigours of Tannadice in the League Cup last Wednesday should not be used to cover up deficiencies. “Playing extra-time and penalties on Wednesday night might have something to do with it, but I don’t want to make excuses. It’s the second time we’ve given Dundee all the encouragement they needed,” he said, referring to September’s meeting at Tynecastle, which Dundee also won 1-0 after Hearts had been in midweek European action in Liverpool.
