Hearts boss demands side start performing against teams at bottom of the SPL3 Nov 2012 00:01 JOHN McGLYNN has seen his side produce top displays against Celtic, Liverpool and Motherwell but has been less than impressed by dropped points against Dundee, INvermess and Ross County. JOHN McGLYNN has warned his Hearts players they can’t just turn it on in big games after seeing them fail to sparkle against lesser lights this season. The Jambos have produced their best displays in clashes with Liverpool, Celtic and two of last term’s SPL top four, Dundee United and Motherwell. Yet today’s opponents Dundee secured their only top-flight win of the campaign so far at Tynecastle and McGlynn’s men have also dropped points against Inverness and Ross County at home. After Hearts booked their place in the League Cup semi-finals with a penalty shoot-out win over Dundee United in midweek, McGlynn is demanding more consistency. The Jambos gaffer said: “Some of our best performances this season have come against Liverpool and three of the top four in the SPL last term – champions Celtic, Motherwell and twice against Dundee United at Tannadice. “But we’ve dropped points against Inverness, Ross County and Dundee. We need to beat these sides and not just rise to the challenge of the so-called bigger teams. “It’s about the mindset and we need to change that. When we’ve dropped points at home, teams sit in and make it more difficult. If you don’t kill them off they can hit you with a sucker punch. “Dundee have only taken one point outwith their win against us but it’s been awkward for them. They were building a team for the First Division and got a late chance to go into the SPL. “However, we can’t feel too sympathetic because we need to make amends for the game we lost to them at Tynecastle.” Taken from the Daily Record |
