Captain's rallying call

02.11.2012

Dear Supporter,

This club has given me my finest moments in football. I knew when I joined this club that it was a big step for me personally as I began to appreciate the size of the club and the tens of thousands of supporters that back it.

Then, to be awarded the captaincy of Heart of Midlothian Football Club was one of the proudest moments in my career. It was an honour, a privilege and also a responsibility that I knew must never be undervalued.

For that reason I do believe that many of you can relate to my emotions on the day that I stood at the foot of the steps of the presentation box at Hampden Park on 19th May after our historic Scottish Cup Final win. I was overwhelmed. But I make no apologies for that. It was a pinnacle but not just for me for the entire team, the squad and the supporters.

Most footballers never win a professional domestic trophy throughout their whole career but I have now had that honour in two countries. And I feel I have so much to thank this club and its supporters for.

For this reason I will be supporting the club's Share Offer and, if it's possible, I'd ask you to join me in backing the Offer. I want this club to enjoy more 'days in the sun' and with your help we'll do exactly that. Your support at Tannadice last night was remarkable and all the players are delighted that we can return with you to Hampden for the semi-final.

It is no secret that the club faces financial challenges but we have a bond than can protect us if we all pull together. I truly believe we can not only survive the current climate but thrive in future. But we can only do it if we do it together.

That is why I will join those supporters that have already invested and take the first steps towards a more stable but equally successful future. For anyone that enjoyed that magnificent weekend in May or soaked up our great European nights then I'd ask you to take a step forward and support the club when it needs you most.

In the same way that I lifted the Scottish Cup on behalf of the club and its supporters, I now would simply ask you to lift a pen on behalf of the club and your fellow supporters. In doing so you are not just completing an Application Form you are helping to write the next chapters in the future of Heart of Midlothian Football Club.

Hearts forever.

Marius Zaliukas
